Turn off cloud/fog effects

Its been years now and such a small feature would have huge impacts on the temperature and speed of our graphics cards...

CCP, provide a setting to turn off the damned cloud/fog effects, where you enter a plex or mission pocket and the fog immediately reduces frame rates to abysmal levels.

If this exists by some non-intuitive graphics settings name I eagerly await being told what it is, but seriously.....fog and clouds add zilch to the spaceships experience, but cost too much as implemented GPU/resource wise.

That is all.

My GPU can keep a steady framerate, but listening to the fans ramp up to literally 3 times their normal speed as soon as I land in an anomaly or something is not amusing. Given that I use a rather expensive GPU, and that that GPU is overclocked by a very decent percentage I'd hate to imagine what it's like for other people who don't spend stupid amounts of money on their PC.

Same here, literally goes from 60% to 100% fan speed and it's so loud. I hate it.

They DID add this a while ago (Rubi 1.0?). You toggle them on/off with the "Effects" option in "Graphics" tab. That's the good news...but, as with Eve, it couldn't be that simple...

Trouble is, and I hope you are sitting down for this, it also disables a bunch of other effects as well like missile smoke trails, ship engine trails, tank mod effects, etc. People raised a bit of a stink about it when they added it because it was tied to so many other graphics effects that it was viewed as "Get rid of clouds and a lot of other non-problematic effects needlessly, or keep the effects but still deal with clouds".

One other thing, you have to hit a session change or log off/log on for the effects to properly turn on/off.

"Tomahawks?"

"----in' A, right?"

"Trouble is, those things cost like a million and a half each."

"----, you pay me half that and I'll hump in some c4 and blow the ---- out of it my own damn self."

Yeah, and we still want all of the graphics options to be expanded upon quite a bit. They're about to do a phenomenal job with sound options when Kronos drops, so I would say that more graphics options is a reasonable next step.

Its amusing and sad considering that for some reason the client has weapon sounds turned off for some people after first start, and a huge part of the playerbase has them turned off on purpose cause they sound like 8bit 11khz.

I dont think many people have turned off graphics, or would reply "EVE HAS GRAPHICS?!?!?" like they do with sounds.

Way to do something for no effect :) (pun STRONGLY intended)

I think this was to reduce the amount of people that run missions. Be a miner or gate camper like lots of other people and your graphic issues go away. Unless asteroid shadowing does he same thing...

Is that my two cents or yours?

What if I told you CCP already did exactly as you requested?

So how do i turn off clouds without turning off all effects?

I would respond by saying that they tied it in with a bunch of other effects that have 0 impact on my performance that I don't want to remove from the game. I would also note that we're not asking for quality settings of the clouds, we're not asking to adjust the type of shader used on them. We just want them gone. It's a simple request, and it shouldn't even be something we have to request. Clouds just need to be fixed period, the performance drop is ridiculous.

250 ships on grid outside Jita doing all sorts of ******** crap? 60 FPS.

Getting within firing distance of every ship within a blockade mission and zooming in on my ship so that every hit fills the screen? 60 FPS.

Forcing Eve into 4k resolution and downscaling to 1080p to take some orgasmic screenshots? 60 fps.

One gas cloud? A jetliner with one engine blown lands inside my PC case immediately (less than 2 seconds for the fans to ramp up) and my FPS drops to the mid 20's.

Look away from the gas cloud to empty space? 60 FPS and the fans calm down immediately.

Look at the gas cloud again? My GPU does this.

It's not normal, it stresses my hardware with unnecessary and ludicrously sudden large jumps in voltage, and it's only going to become more of an issue as the game continues to progress graphically. It should be addressed now, not ignored until it becomes a game-breaking unintended consequence after something else is changed.

Clouds need to have their own on/off switch. If you're forced to lose just about all the eye candy (which isn't really affecting framerate in any way) just because you need to get rid of the broken clouds then that's a shame, and so unnecessary.

They don't? Strange. I only connect to EVE using a telnet client and using these CCP approved commands:

dock obj
undock
setOverView OVSetting
getOverView
dScan [obj | alpha, beta, gamma] range angle
approach obj | alpha,beta,gamma
orbit obj range
keepAtRange obj range
setSpeed percentage
warpTo obj range
jump obj
target obj
untarget obj
activateModule slot cycles
getAttributes obj

Exploration is a bit though, but using a MJD gets way easier.

Typical carebear request.
Awww, are the clouds and fogs too much for you? Do you need mommy to hold your hand because the lag is just oh so unbearable? I am sick and tired of you pansies coming here with your pussified opinions, trying to change our wonderful game because you can't grow a pair and HTFU.

I hope you see what I'm doing here. Lol

It's just more financially viable for me.
