I met the guy at FanFest on the pub crawl. Was an awesome dude. I hope he continues to associate with CCP and keeps coming to FanFest, his presence will always be welcome.

CCP should have offered him tenure. That'd make him stay.
In fact, it might have enabled him to outlast the company itself.

Anyway, it's a good position to move to, and I can understand why he'd want to go for the chance, even if it's a potential loss for the game. For those who fear that none can take over, really? A good economist would add notes, explanations, graphs, context and all that to the work, not just so someone else can take over, but really so he can take a look at single instances a few years in the past and get a comprehensive understanding. Find me an economist who likes having to go back and recreate the data and rework it and reinterpret it and reinvent the wheel, and I'll point out that it's a student or theoretical researcher, not someone working in reality. For PolSci (My field) it's the same. A good analyst would have done the work as it happened or shortly thereafter, so that you wouldn't have to go through it all years later just to understand the exact context.
And again, not for any successor. For yourself, so that you can use your past work efficiently.

Dr., I wish you all the best.

The market is awesome in this game. We owe the Dr. and CCP employees a big hug.

The doctors presentations at fanfest have always been my favorite. He is an absolutely awesome guy. He is one of those few people that actually "got EVE".
I will never forget his childish joy when he showed and explained the consequences of any mayor fight, market manipulation or speculation.

Oh Im not having a go at Dr Enjoy

Im just saying that professional economists and the greater good arent seen as going hand in hand in the current era of RL

I think you're confusing economists with bankers and CEO's.

He wasn't really that high-profile in the CCP staff, so it's a bit difficult to coax my tear glands to squeeze some moisture out due to his departure.
Still, not too happy about it either, but life moves on, I guess.
Good luck in the new job.
