Official support for Multiple Clients removed?

I hate the launcher but run multiple clients, so I instance EVE using junctions on my computer and launch them from my taskbar. It's a useful feature because it's easier and faster than the launcher but the setup takes a bit of work.

Recently reinstalling EVE I went to the wiki to figure out how to do this again but the page was blank with a link to the EVE Technical Support page.

Does CCP not support launching via exefile.exe? Or was the article vandalised?

Man if only there was a way to see past revisions of a wiki article, changes between revisions, and who made them.

Enjoying the rain today? ;)

Out of curiosity what is so bad about the launcher?

I used to run multiple clients using the junction function but stopped a while ago after a full reinstall and now I just use the launcher and I have had no issues to speak of.

I agree with Prince

The launcher works fine now for me, in fact its better now than the exe workaround was

Yeah I'm running multiple clients and find using the launcher a lot easier and faster than the old ways.

select user from drop down list and enter password
select play
select switch user account

The clients load in the background as I'm cycling through the logins when I'm bringing several accounts online at the same time. By the time I get to the last account login, the character selection screens are up and ready for pilots to be chosen. I run them in window mode so tabbing through them is quick and easy.

Why cant you just use the exefile workaround and click it X number of times for X number of alts?

Launching via exefile.exe works just fine, i did it just three minutes ago. Bear Yay for bypassing the silly launcher.

Even out of game.

To be honest, the Junction method is more aggravation than it's worth with multiple small patches being the norm. Just install 2 separate clients.

I think you mean a scourge or flail

Whips are extremely inefficient for flensing and more :effort: than fun

I like that bit in The Passion where the legionaire tests the scourge and it whacks into the Tribune's desk and big chucks of wood come hurtling out, and the Tribune looks up as if to say;

"WTF dude, Im writing here!"

The launcher is not the best choice for multiple clients. When you launch the game with the launcher, you cannot "log off" in order to switch chars on that account. You have to manually close and restart the client. Not the biggest deal at all, but thoguht I'd point that out.

Thats because the Log In page is always open on the launcher....

Set launcher to close when you start the game. Then you can simply open up another and run another client.

Official support hasn't been dropped. They still hint at multi-clients when they advertise PLEX. Even the recent True Stories comic explains multi-clients using in-game context. :)

They want you to run multiple clients.

On multiple computers.

You see, CCP is in bed not only with the nullsec cartels, but also the RL silicon cartels.

I always liked the junctions mainly because I have different setups for the different alts. You still get the launcher even by clicking the exe but you will be starting it from the junction folder so the setting and the cash (not money) will be the same.

I had copied the wiki post so that I could make the junctions again so here it is.

Creating the symlink and Shortcuts to run your other clients Using 3rd party applications

Make sure that EVE Online has been installed. If not install it first.

Open My Computer > C:\Program Files (x86) or if your EVE ONLINE client is installed in a different directory, go there.

Hold the SHIFT key, and right-click the CCP folder, select Open command window here.

Create a new juction by typing "mklink /D EVE2 EVE" in the command window.

If you get an error, you might have to start cmd as Administrator: Press the Windows key, enter cmd in the search box, right-click the cmd.exe icon from the search results, and select "Run as Administrator"

Why? After the first client hits the character select screen, just hit switch account on the launcher and log in with another toon. It will open a second client. Rinse repeat for as many clients as you need.

My issue us it take longer than it used to. I used to just double click my exe shortcut however many times I needed clients. Then just log in on each. It was so much faster back then.

I also don't like not being able to log out to switch account character. That definitely needs to be added.
