check this snip out: @ 1:53

It's only a few seconds, but it shows docking inside the station.

I though that was pretty cool.

Why we no have, CCP? What?

If it took even half a second longer than the current docking session change, the major response would be, "omfg give us a way to turn this crap off."

"Help, I'm bored with missions!"

All these graphics things ruin performance. We should petition to have them removed.

Apples and honda civics. It has nothing to do with the rendering performance, but the actual play time of some stupid animation that will be tired and boring after the first 3 times you see it.

If it actually makes the docking process take longer, it's ****.

If you can cram the entire animation into the same length as the session change timer, fine, whatever. It's a low-impact use of dev resources, but other than that it's harmless enough.

Realistic docking is one of the single most annoying features of any space sim.

Docking should work as it does in Frontier: Elite 2. Without a docking computer to do it you crash into the station and it is game over.

Hey now, that makes it harder to play station games.

You make a valid point, good Sir or Madam.

Because "immersion" of any kind apparently makes the "core player base" twist in agony of LOLRPSPACEBARBIE.

CCP has painted itself into the corner, OP. Leave your hope at the door when logging ito EVE. Like, really. It's a mix of high school yard and a state prison converted into a series of spreadsheets.

And you've just dropped your soap in the midst of General Discussion. Again.

And yes, I loved to dock manually in Frontier :P

ESC to cancel the docking P*RN. And all is fine. Just a client related feature.

Immersion is fine.

Pointless fluff features are not.

And yes, they are different.

I think they could easily do this without it being any longer than it is now... Your ship could move from the traffic area onto the docking ring while doing anything you always do, meanwhile the ship would get on top of the docking ring like it is shown in the video. Instead of the ship poping right in the middle and the camera moving away it could have the camera focused on the ship approaching the docking ring, but you could still able to do all the stuff.

At the moment, docking & jump cloning are the only remaining jump-cuts in the game- it'd be nice to have those final two gaps bridged with cover animations.

However, docking especially, as an animation these must not last longer than the underlying transition. That's tantamount to unskippable cutscenes, which will drive people nuts given the frequency of the action.

If anyone noticed, the UI was fully functional as the ship was docking into place. Exactly how much time was "lost?"

Maybe if the interface and options were available while the animation was playing.

If they ever get around to finally redoing pos', and they go with the mooring idea of docking your ship, I hope there's an animation to it.

I'd like to see my shop docked into the station from outside the station, perhaps some sort of umbilical. That way you use the already implemented space graphics as immersion, you can observe the ships outside the station (quite sensible), etc.

Bottom line, I'd like windows to see space from my apartment in a station, or just don't bother.

the problem is, we woudl only have, at best, 1 animation per faction. and likely only one animation shared by all factions of a docking port.

If it was actually interesting/cool, or had things actually worth looking at, people woudlnt mind as much.

kinda like the warp gate effects, its just THERE, theres nothing interesting going on, its a grey tunnel.
