Ship Signature question.

So I am looking at changing ships that I use to run some PVE.

My concern is, switching from my drake that will re gen 100dps and has a sig radius of 407m, to a new ship that will regen 55dps but has a sig radius of 110m. Being approx 70% reduction in sig radius, will that cover off the spread of regen'd dps that I would be losing? Does sig radius play that large of a factor when taking damage? (I will also be moving faster, which I know will help, but am curious about it as if both ships move the same speed)

Sig radius can make quite a bit of difference for how much damage you take but 110m is pretty easy for medium sized weapons to hit. If you are afterburning at close range to battleships only you might be OK to tank with small signature but otherwise you'll probably still get hit pretty hard.

My suggestion would be to stay in the Drake. Speed/Signature tanking is more advanced than straight up tank strength and can go very wrong very quickly if you don't do it correctly.

400+ signature is going to take nearly full or full damage from most things in PvE, 110m is pretty much standard cruiser size but if you think about it from a PvP standpoint medium guns should not have to struggle to hit a cruiser and they don't, so NPCs will hit you with medium weapons as well. The full interaction between signature and weapons damage application is poorly understood by a very large portion of people even among veteran players and if you're new trying to explain it all in full before you know what a lot of things are would be very confusing.

For now it should be enough to know that a 110 signature will almost certainly not tank better than your Drake does. This is actually why the Drake is so often recommended as a starting point for new players because it does tank so well for so little.

EDIT: It would help to know what kind of PvE we are talking about here as well. L2 missions just fitting a shield booster and running them in a cruiser is fine, if we're talking L3s here then trying to sig tank it with 110m and 55 dps passive tank will die for sure.

Reality has an almost infinite capacity to resist oversimplification.

i would need abit more information about what u want to do and what u fly. I dont know stats but when your resists on the smaller ship are better that would also make a difference as your regenerated shield hp will be higher.

Thank you both.

What it comes down to is, I have been day tripping into c2 WH's with my drake and running sites. I have also come into possesion of a legion, and have seen some fits that (I think) will allow me to clear sites faster.

But after getting to what I thought would be my final fit. I am having a hard time believing that my 50% reduction in armour hp regen on my Legion(approx 550dps / 9.6s) will be comparable to my 101dps sheild regen on my drake.

My resist will be higher on the legion, lowest being 77% worst case vs 63% or so as my lowest on the ol drake.

Drake 407m sig / 173m speed / 63% lowest resist / approx 300 dps / 101dps shield regen
Legion 110m sig / 543m speed / 77 lowest resist / approx 415dps / 550armour regen per 9.6s

The legion is a magnitute more isk to replace if lost....but so are the dps and speed.....

55 hp/s armor repair sounds really, really low. What are you using for comparison?

If you check EFT, I bet you'll find that the legion reps rather more than 55 EHP/s.

sry your stats help abit but they look wrong and without a fit i cant say if im just remembering the legion wrong or if your fit isnt getting the best out of it
