Does WiS actually need new gameplay elements?

I'm still holding out hope for that board game looking thing with the mechs and hexes that totally didn't seem like a Battletech ripoff (not that I would mind.) I forget what they called it, but add that game and a betting system and i'll call Incarna a success as far as I'm concerned.

Anyone here played Neverwinter? I've given it a go lately, and the major hangout spot for roleplay in that game is the Moonstone Mask, a brothel where the courtesans are typically wearing rather more than some of the player-character patrons. There's a lot of /dance-ing going on, and people leaving in pairs to go cyber in a private instance somewhere.

It's fun in its way, but it really doesn't strike me as very EVE. I mean, I'm all behind the idea of getting my toon sitting down in a bar drinking a beer and watching the Splinterz while winning a Scorpion in a poker game, but what EVE is about is meaningful action that contributes to an economy founded on cycles of destruction.

Just having a bar where people can strut around wearing an example of the pitifully small catalogue of NeX clothing, sink ISK into imaginary beer and emote at each other is fine from an RP perspective, but - and I say this as an enthusiastic and long-term RPer myself - it's not EVE.

WiS needs content. We need to be able to smuggle, to hack megacorporate servers and steal their data in Neuromancer-style digital heists. We need to be able to pull some Ocean's 11 slick crime on a Poteque cybernetics lab. Bars need to be the place where you meet Hancolm Reylo, captain of the Serene Falcon and his mate Zoebacca and sell him a crate full of less-than-legal goods to ship out to nullsec. Or maybe Captain RoboJudge overhears the conversation and arrives at the below-decks exchange of goods and money, delivering justice with his boot and a ridiculously overpowered gun.

I want to own a casino and sell black-market ship components to members of the VIP lounge. I want to trick my interceptor out with an illegal overcharged MWD that provides a bigger speed boost but overheats faster that I had to buy off a shady character in a bar in Rancer. I want him to have built it from stolen prototype blueprints and experimental technology that Lai Dai would pay good money to get back. I want to get a CONCORD bounty every time I blow up a capsuleer who's using one of those things, and I want to take contracts on behalf of the Caldari State to provide a customs patrol at major highsec gates.

I want to hack an FIO office, steal a folder full of experimental viruses from their mainframe and load them into my data analyzer like charges. Or maybe shoot my way to safety when I screw up and they send a strike team to deal with me.

I want to work side-by-side with dust mercs, using my wealth and connections and neural implants to literally and figuratively open doors for them as they raid a rival corporation's station hangar. I want to explore Sleeper structures to recover advanced biomodifications that I can build into my own clone.

Some of these things are impractical, implausible or just simply never going to happen. But the point is that EVE in Stations could be huge, IF - and only if - it is more than just a vehicle for erotic emotes.

Fill an empty room with humans, and they'll make their own content.

Where others see a pointless bar with no gameplay, I see a station interior with windows, so you can now see if anyone is sat on the undock without needing a second account. Imagine an RP corp is recruiting, and you manage to convince them that you're into that sort of thing by spending long evenings at the bar with them. Eventually they allow you to join their corp, which is when you ransom their Orca. That one meeting place provides a lot of possibilities.

I want everything you said too, however, baby steps. Just the bar, a few corridors, and maybe some NPCs standing around would be a good start. I know EVE players would find a way to make that fun (probably at someone else's expense).

You can already do that by going to the IGS, or joining the in-game roleplaying channels, and more efficiently to boot.

EVE in Stations needs to be more than just a graphical facelift to roleplaying - it needs to be EVE, and EVE isn't just a bunch of people in an empty room. Sure, an empty room full of people who can't leave would probably result in them telling a story or playing a game or something, but given the option they WOULD leave in search of somewhere with a better stock of tools and toys.

You can't just produce content from thin air - emergent content still requires a mechanical foundation. What differentiates EVE from a chat channel is that you can get in a spaceship and fly. Just putting people in an empty space and waiting won't produce results - the sandbox still requires sand.

What you do is you give people the means to extract and transport a resource, and then watch as they figure out how best to control and exploit that resource, build an economy, figure out how it interacts with the rest of the universe, and watch a new edifice grow and form its own thriving ecology.

But an empty room is not content, no matter how pretty it may be.

Can't really agree witb you.

What you are saying happens already and does not need a room for people to hang out with.

I mean that your arguments aren't really any,
because they don't add something that's not there already.

No one needs a bar for this and no one ever has,
thus there would be no increase in possibilities.

I'm not against WiS... hey, I want a long Tshirt to wear without pants lol ...
... but I wanted to say this so you can rethink your arguments.

A lot of the suggestions in this thread for WiS interaction are similar to metagaming interactions players have over Mumble/phone/SMS. These others means of communication will always be faster and more personal..

When someone is negotiating corp vs. corp terms I suspect a voice is preferred to an avatar's dead-eye stare in CQ.

I'm not putting WiS down.. I'd like to see more WiS gameplay and I've offered some suggestions before.. but I'm not sure I identify too well with the RP-type suggestions.

- Gambling (slay, poker etc)
- in station FC tactical map

Two features I personally wanted to see, and feel would potentially get a lot of use.

Either do something with it or get rid of it completely. People weren't even mad about it. They were mad that there WAS NO game play content, and about the obscene prices in the cash store. People thought WIS was a cool idea, and still do. You just gotta actually do something with it.

Edit: the other obvious gameplay option is to make Legion an extension of EVE, and allow me to so shoot people in the face from my CQ with my eve character? not sure that really is an advantage over a standalone game.

I just want a clan hall, where corp members can hang out and do things to each others bodies.

I 100% agree.

We need a new gameplay element for our CQ.

I demand Prostitutes and Exotic Dancers (and/or Groups of Exotic Dancers)!!!

CCP DOES have the technology.

See some of their WiS videos for proof!

No...noooo they dont. Anyone seen WOD???

I'd like to sneak into another's CQ when they're out and browse their ships, fittings, hangar contents, contracts and other intelligence. And then leave a fedo in their spare pod as a nice surprise when they next switch ships.

Until CODE. members block the corridor and make you pay 10mil ISK to get back to your ship.

After a few months of forum whining, CCP will release a statement claiming they do not support such actions but the mechanics are working as intended.

Don't give us ideas man! Besides it was the guy's own fault for leaving the ship hangar in the first place!

People keep talking about a poker room and I think its a great idea. Have the door open into a poker/bing room and bar with a TV and a view.

TBH I think the FiS purists might be underestimating how that might affect the game. It would create a new toy in the sandbox that could be used to interact with HS other than the market and hitting the residents with a shovel. We would also benefit from having another way to interact with our Dust/Legion and Valkyrie counterparts.

This isn't an important issue because WiS is going to be amazing. This is an important issue because at fanfest we learned only 10% of the playerbase gets to "dynamic content" and we need a way to really engage with the "leveling my Raven" crowd socially. Getting that 10% to even 11 or 12% would be a big win.
