MS, Cancer, and EVE. I'd like to ask a favor.

While it is foolish to expect sympathy from the world of EVE, I would like to ask this universe a favor.

I don't expect many people to believe my story, or really care despite my hopes, but I couldn't return to this game without getting something off my chest and taking one final chance. Hope is a complicated fragile thing. Here goes.

I'm dying. This isn't a joke, or scam, or idiotic ploy.
Stage 4 terminal Cancer, lymph nodes, lungs and liver. I also have Multiple Sclerosis, although it has been stable for years.
I had my second bout of Chemo this week, and somewhere between getting the satchel hooked to my port and hearing about the abysmal white blood count stuff, a person nearby (overheard conversation) was asking the 'if you could have a last wish' question.

Of all the moronic, silly things that popped in my head, I swear this one came up.

I wish I hadn't left the laptop. I wish I'd kept the Cd-Key. I wish I had Vic Back.

I've been in and out of this game so many damn times over the years and deep down part of it has been this misguided hope that that I'd finally get an email response. An insult from him, an acknowledgement, at least an explanation.

I'm not perfect, I've made mistakes. In short, Several years ago I had a pair of roomates that didn't work out and the spare laptop one had been borrowing (yes, with my account info on it) ended up 'going missing' about the same time they moved out.
I was working, but broke and in debt (thanks guys) and by the time I thought about eve and returned six months or more later... low and behold he was gone.

I didn't even know about 'selling characters' or accounts back then. There was a time, like dual micro-warp drives, when this **** was just a new alien concept. I eventually got my account back, but for reasons that are very good on CCP's side, they couldn't at the time restore the Character back into the account as it had been active those six months on the 'transferred' account, and I had no way of proving that I didn't somehow do this myself. Ironically he wasn't even special, just a hauler with learning skills... but he was my first and main guy. I tried over the years, but there is just nothing they can do.

If you are still reading, thank you. I'd like to ask you a simple favour.

In all these years, I have written only a handful of letters to the current 'owner' of this character and never gotten a single responce. Never one in anger, never one in judgement, and I know through outside sources that it isn't the roomate... he sold both the account and laptop ages ago. I don't know how he got this character, and I don't care.

All I've ever wanted is to talk to the guy, or someone who knows him.
I just wanted the chance to explain the situation (knowing he actually heard it) and ask if there is any condition in which he might feel compensated enough to release him back to me.
That is all I really want.

If anyone out there in this universe knows this person, or has seen this character, please ask him to contact me.

I've lived a good life, have a great family, and really don't regret much or need much these days.
I'd just like to cast my 'one wish' out there.

Thank You

I sent the character an evemail refering him to your post.

I wish you well.

He last lost a ship in 2009. A mining ship in low sec.

He has never forum posted.

If you have any contact with your former friends it might be worth chasing up with them, I am sure you have tried.

Other than that I can only wish you my deepest sympathy and hope for the best for your future.

I don't rate your chances high; the last activity his current corp has publicly logged was 2 years ago, so it's possible the entire corp has gone inactive.

Still, best of luck with your shot in the dark.

What would be neat is if someone at CCP were to look into it, and see if the person has been inactive or not, and if they have been inactive for 2+ years maybe shoot them an email with a link to this thread, or even ask if the to on may be given back if the person has no intent on returning.

That's probably a pipe dream, as I doubt CCP would do that. Chances are it would set a precedent that would be abused by someone.

Anyways, I hope you can get your toon back, and I'm sorry for your situation.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

Wishing you the very best of luck, both in your endeavors to be reunited with your char and the struggles that life has set down before you.

All the best and I hope it all, including both the RL and in game issues, works out better than you expect.

Try using the Recall programme. If it mails the account owner direct (not sure how it works?) with a free trial offer, they may resub. Petition as well.

I think you can add a personalised message to that mail too

Either way, I wish you good luck in your quest

I wish you luck in getting your first character back, but more than that I truly pray that you'll recover. Terminal may seem like a death sentence, but there is more than compassion involved in why they don't just call it "deadly". Honestly, terminal does not always mean it's the end. You can make it, even though it might seem otherwise.

Also, anyone who thinks about the last thing they'd like to do on this Earth and comes up with, "Man, I really just wish I could play EvE Online with my first character again" deserves to not only pull through, but to live a long and happy life.

Good luck on all fronts and movement is your friend. 'Exercise' aka movement is the best alternative therapy for all forms of cancer, according to much of the research.
