CCP was wondering why players don't get involved in the community...

CCP once fielded a question to the CSM, asking them why most players do not get involved in the forums or the community much at all.

https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=344514

This is a great example of why most players who come on the forums to discuss an idea or ask a question never return after their first time or second time. In the larger picture incidents like this are what cause players to keep to themselves and their cliques instead of getting involved with the community much past that.

There needs to be harsher penalties for this kind of trolling and disrespectful behavior, it contributes to much of the isolationist attitudes in the game which ultimately lead to lost subscriptions and $$$ over time.

What happened in that thread was not discussion, it was not criticism, it was not even innocent trolling. What happened in that thread was a group of angry men getting their rocks off at another person's expense.

Sorry what do you think is in this example you have cited that lives up to your claim?

I am having a hard time seeing it myself

"A singular character could be hired to penetrate another corps space... using gorilla like tactics..." - Chane Morgann

if forum rules were broken, ccp will take action.

otherwise, i don't really see an issue here. the topic that you linked didn't even warrant a forum thread anyway.

If anyone doubts my claim that they are just RL angry dudes getting their rocks off...

Pretty much clear admittance of it.

You are basing your entire premise is based on something that is at the very least third-hand information

Can you please cite the problem-causing name or other facts?

Do you expect people to pick up their pitchforks again so quickly without evidence?

If CCP had a dislike button we could dislike all the retards and their stupid bullshit and we wouldnt have to post to inform them of the fact that they're ********. Until this button gets added the only way to help people realize they're dumb is to call them out in their topics.

lol i like how the forum filters out reta rded but not retards.

I do think they jumped onto the OP in that linked topic quite aggressively.
And there are lots of topics on these forums which warrant a forum thread even less. Asking a simple question seems, to me, quite legitimate.

That said, in my experience reactions like that aren't that uncommon on a lot of forums, and most of the threads I'm reading on the eve forums are quite civil, really.

Oh, he's commenting on the replies and not the OP?

Well in that case...

That's why I normally never do forums

EvE is no different to any other forums on any topic anywhere in the world

We are just sexier than most other ubernerds

No way this ever happens often, nope.

Any chance you can clarify what you are trying to say?

Im not seeing anything unusual in any of these threads, this is stuff that happens on all other forums

Some trolls, some serious answers, no attacks, as far as I could see from skimming the first page.
I wouldn't say that is a particularly bad thread.

Actually, that one is fine. Originally the question just asked if you would need level 5 to refine ice, he edited it to add the perfect refine part later, so the answer was in fact no. It probably could have been explained in more detail, but realistically the answer would always be no, with the addendum that in any space, not just high sec, level 5 will be required to get the maximum yield possible, which would never be "perfect".

As for the other thread, yeah, people were trolling, which people do. That's not unique to these forums. Does it turn people away from the community? Sure it does, but we still end up with a pretty strong and diverse community compared to many other games. And the tools are there to report posts if the violate rules, so seems like they have put some thought into it.

I was looking at the OP's linked thread and was shaking my head.. no.. no! the wonderful folks of GD would never behave like that, and then I scrolled up and saw C&P.

Well, that explains it.

C&P is like the shark tank that the attendants forgot to add food to, so it just feeds on itself and instantly consumes any new flesh.

People in EVE communicate with each other in different ways. The forum is only one of these ways.

Edit: Post #4 in OP's linked thread gave a clear and polite answer. OP could have followed it to get instant results. I don't understand..

Joffy Aulx-Gao for CSM. Fix links and OGB. Ban stabs from plexes. Fulfill karmic justice.

People need to get a thicker skin.

I don't know if Steven Fry actually said this, but the quote is relevent

Quoted from Doc Fury: "Concerned citizens: Doc seldom plays EVE on the weekends during spring and summer, so you will always be on your own for a couple days a week. Doc spends that time collecting kittens for the on-going sacrifices, engaging in reckless outdoor activities, and speaking in the 3rd person."

New people who have trouble on the forums generally don't spend enough time lurking to catch the flow or to understand the community.. then they end up making a post that either doesn't get a response or doesn't get the response they expected and they go away disappointed. The forums, like anything EvE, takes effort to figure out.
