I have been away for a long time and have just returned.

I have a couple of problems that I am working through: my corp blew up while I was gone and I am in my role removal wait to leave the now dead corp and alliance.

Aside from that, I am a Gallente drone pilot and miner. Is there still the overwhelming feeling that Gallente ships are the bottom rung of the universe?

Nope, you see a lot of Gallente frigs flying around low sec and their drone boats (Ishtar) are the current favorite fleet comp for many entities throughout eve.

I just got through reading the following thread in general discussion: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=345063&find=unread

Needless to say this thread was an amusing find afterwards.

Many gallente ships are superb pvp ships.
Several of the sentry based ships are used for PVE a lot.
The ishtar is widely belived to be OP for PVP and PVE.
I see many gallente ships fighting in null.

You can quit instantly nowadays,
although sometimes the message still appears.

And obviously... Gallente love! ;)

The one problem I can see with drones for new players is that you need a bit of an initial skill-point investment before they really become useful. For example, you need Drones V in order to field five of them, and you need Interfacing to at least III or IV, where as you can fit as many turrets as your ship can hold with minimal turret skills.

Many decent turret/missile fits need advanced weapon upgrade which means WU 5.
Turret don't track well without skills.
Missile don't apply well without skills.
every time you change ship size /race you need a new turret type/size trained.
You will use your drone skills for most ships in game.

As I posted in that thread - "tweak, tweak, tweak..." across my 5 years playing - nope, not bottom of the barrel but not tops either.

It's a solid choice, like any other - better than it once was but also worse than it once was - not an "I win" nor ultra weak.
