Hah! I just hopped onto sisi to see these optical flares for myself and they are absolutely beautiful! Please don't change a thing and if you must ADD MORE!

You mention that the team working on this had several other options... please let them know we'd like to see them in game; even if there are say 3, 4 or even 5 slightly different optical flares for each star class.

The vertical one is especially awesome - almost gives me a giddy sensation because i'm so used to seeing them horizontal.

*edit* forgot to mention that the 'light-bleed'(whatever it's called) at the edges of the screen is just as magical - in fact it's almost cinematic!
Also, it seems that the overall size of the suns/stars have gotten much smaller; i think this is good as is gives a greater sense of distance traveling within each system.

Again, beautiful stuff! Am looking forward to seeing in TQ.

Pretty much in agreement with all of this.

Very interesting- the variation in how the lense flares are shaped makes me think that there's something going on with the polarization of the light, which is changing how it actually makes the glare when it interacts with the camera, or something. The vertical flare is definitely one of my favourites too.

This is only tangentially related- but will the dynamic brightening/dimming of stars as you get closer/farther from them be included in the Kronos release as well, or is that a future thing? I know it was mentioned recently at one of the Fanfest panels this year.

The new effects look great, i like the fact that each startype has its own effect. but while on the subject of star types, are there plans to correct the current star discriptions, for example a red giant star, labled K5V, should be more like KVIII, the "V" indicates a more regular star (main sequence) while a "III" indicates a more evolved star, like a red giant.

examples:
star like sun: G2V
Blue bright: O4II
red giant: K7III
White dwarf: Bpe
Orange star: K2V
Blue star: B5V
white star: A3V

It's one of my favourites too, please keep it!

Does this include interesting wormhole stars and their effects?

The primary stars in known WH space were considered during the development of these modifications to the camera drone technology which filters and interprets stellar light for capsuleer display systems.

Unfortunately, as I understand it, there hasn't yet been enough Empire research on light emitted through unique trapezia interplay of the binary- and trinary-star systems present in many wormholes to account for these with recent advances in visualization.

I can assure you that specialists are deep in consideration regarding additional potential developments.

if this doesn't make JJ Abrams subscribe to eve i don't know what would!

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

I was about to ask this exact question. Great to see they're worked in too :)

And the new solar flares are just beautiful. Can't wait to see them myself. Looking forward to more advancements in this matter!

I'm in the Average Hemorphite, Jaspet and Kernite Depsoit in Eglennaert. The clouds in the belt are getting a crazy shine from the sun or something. Seems really bright. At certain angles you can't see through it at all.

Edit: When you zoom in on your ship though it looks sick. I changed my mind. This looks dope.

I find myself Ctrl F9ing a fair bit more often now, this is perfect, i wouldn't go any stronger with it as you seem to have a nice level right now.

Edit:ShockedThat vertical one is stunning

Ah shite...

The new effects are great, excellent work.

Vertical effect for white stars looks really cool and gives much needed variety to systems that can look far too similar.

On that point, Minmatar space is still very samey with nebulae that look very much the same system after system and the new suns don't do much to break that up.

Summary - I like the lens effects a lot and if anything would want this enhanced. Please revisit nebulae or system effects to break up the large regions, especially in Minmatar space.

i just watched an old eve recording and noticed that the blue ship explosions used to have lense flare too. So i was wondering if you thought about adding it to more bright light sources (e.g explosions). They looked quite good back then tbh.

I am not too sure what I should think about the half-circle like fields extending in opposite directions from the sun. Looks very artificial to me.

Um, hmm. The vertical lens flare makes absolutely no sense, lens flares are determined by the lenses in use, not the light source. For that matter why do we have anamorphic lens flares at all, not spherical ones? We're flying spaceships, not shooting movies. I'm inclined to think that spherical lens flares would look better and get in the way less (the large horizontal flares frequently obscure the majority of the orbital planes for the bodies in the system).

Because you're seeing the exterior of your ship and space from via camera drones which are in effect "shooting movies" that are then relayed back to your pod.

Sheesh, will the spreadsheets in space/bittervets/resistant to change crowd ever be happy?

And there's no particular reason for those camera drones to have anamorphic lenses... but I take your point. However the anamorphic lens flares really do obscure celestials too much, the random vertical lens flare is impossible to ignore if you know anything at all about photography, which should not be uncommon, and if we just care about what looks cool, spherical lens flares are cool.

One thing to add- screenshots do not do this feature justice, it really feels like the camera drone has a proper lens and there's lovely effects as the sun approaches the edge of the screen.

When you warp to sun, the lens flare effect looks a little off. I'm not sure you should still have the effect when you're that close to the sun.
