As a newb I have a ton of questions so here is another. It was advised some time ago to always use an alt when posting in forums...so, how does one do that?

Near the top right where it shows your name, click on that and hit "Switch Character". You'll have to make a new character on your account if haven't already done so.

Though I don't really understand the purpose, unless its to troll.

Or to avoid trolls, or bounties, or other harassment in-game.

You could also use the forums to create PvP content for yourself, your corp, and your alliance if you're really good at it.

The distrust is strong with this newbie.

Some valid points on why to use an alt. I just never found a point for myself. To me, main posting seems to get your more fun Smile

I've been posting on this, my main character, since 2009. I post a lot, I'm the #26 top poster.

I mainly try not to be an annoying troll. I sometimes make mistakes, or write really stupid stuff.

No negative side that I know of yet.

I've only posted with alts accidentally. Under the old forums it was much easier to lose track of which character was active when posting.

Personally I say post with your main. I've posted dumb questions on both the forums, help channel, and local, and got insulted and other things but in all everything is harmless. A newbie is expected to ask questions, and you shouldn't feel discouraged from asking questions just because you happen to be on your main atm.

Distrust is a good quality in a newbie ;)

There are a few reasons why you might want to do this (use an alt to post), some good and some not so good.

1 Some corporations and / or alliances don't want you to post on your main character as this will attract flaming, abuse etc based on the corp or alliance name or ticker rather than the content of your post

2 You want to make posts on contentious issues that may result in you being flamed, abused, war-decced, etc

3 You are a troll and want to avoid the consequences of 2. above

If you are civil and constructive and don't go out of your way to make enemies you shouldn't have a problem.

I recommend making an alt. Joining a corp you don't like, and then making really stupid topics to get them wardecced. The hard part is doing this while staying within the "no trolling" rules though. hm....

I agree that alt posting is useless I have only ever posted with alts for recruitment posts wh corps are fickle about recruitment especially from other wh corps fortunately it's been about 2 years since I had to do that.

Always willing to help all you have to do is ask, though if you're in the other fleet I may not help the way you want. Just a heads up. Pub Channel: Lost Souls Trading Post

^ This, so much.

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

Start arguing that Eve should have consentual PvP only because you want to mine in peace. Also when not mining you would really like to Walk in the Station.
That should do the trick quite nicely.

You're only going to bring negative consequences on yourself if you're intending to ask ridiculous questions or be an annoying troll.

If so, and that's why you want to post with an alt, then go grow some balls.

Otherwise be proud n' post with your main. Cool
