I have removed some rule breaking posts. As always I let some edge cases stay.
Please people, keep it on topic and above all civil!

The Rules:
4. Personal attacks are prohibited.

Commonly known as flaming, personal attacks are posts that are designed to personally berate or insult another forum user. Posts of this nature are not beneficial to the community spirit that CCP promote and as such they will not be tolerated.

5. Trolling is prohibited.

Trolling is a defined as a post that is deliberately designed for the purpose of angering and insulting other players in an attempt to incite retaliation or an emotional response. Posts of this nature are disruptive, often abusive and do not contribute to the sense of community that CCP promote.

If I realy wanted to enforce the rules here, I would have had to remove most of the thread, including a post from a colleague.
I shall just disregard the following rule, for now:
28. Please use the correct language when posting on the forums.

The default language for posting on the EVE Online forums is English. Please use English when posting as a courtesy to other forum users, unless the forum channel is specifically created for discussion in another language as part of our localized language specific sub-forums.

Forum compliant version :
Playing in English is a good way to improve your knowledge of the language, not counting the potential professional benefits.

Back in the days, the English I learned at school was enough to allow me to play old games, heavily text oriented, like Bard's Tales.

And I certainly dont want to play any MMO in french without a full french server as it's nightmare unless you just decide to isolate yourself with other french speaking people.

But anyway, it's probably a good thing for those unable or unwilling to do the actual work to learn English.

Edit : english atrocities as much as possible...

I have removed some rule breaking posts.

The Rules:
10. Discussion of warnings and bans is prohibited.

Such matters shall remain private between CCP and the involved user. Questions or comments concerning warnings and bans will be conveyed through email or private messaging. CCP respect the right of our players to privacy and as such you are not permitted to publicize private correspondence (including petition responses and emails) received from any of the aforementioned parties.

11. Discussion of forum moderation is prohibited.

The discussion of EVE Online forum moderation actions generally leads to flaming, trolling and baiting of our ISD CCL moderators. As such, this type of discussion is strictly prohibited under the forum rules. If you have questions regarding the actions of a moderator, please file a petition under the Community & Forums Category.

26. Off-topic posting is prohibited.

Off-topic posting is permitted within reason, as sometimes a single comment may color or lighten the tone of discussion. However, excessive posting of off-topic remarks in an attempt to derail a thread may result in the thread being locked, or a forum warning being issued.

30. Abuse of CCP employees and ISD volunteers is prohibited.

CCP operate a zero tolerance policy on abuse of CCP employees and ISD volunteers. This includes but is not limited to personal attacks, trolling, “outing” of CCP employee or ISD volunteer player identities, and the use of any former player identities when referring to the aforementioned parties.
Our forums are designed to be a place where players and developers can exchange ideas in a polite and friendly manner for the betterment of EVE Online. Players who attack or abuse employees of CCP, or ISD volunteers, will be permanently banned from the EVE Online forums across all their accounts with no recourse, and may also be subject to action against their game accounts.

The reason the French do not speak English so well is more simple I believe: they do not need to. French is a widespread language with quite a lot of speakers and secondary speakers and a big market, which means much of everything gets translated and dubbed, that airline companies, car rental agencies, hotels etc throughout the world will have employees who speak French, that it's no trouble using translators to conduct business or diplomacy etc. It's pretty much the same reason the British or Americans can't speak other languages for the most part, they don't need to. Add to that that French was pretty much a universal language of´the educated just a few generations ago, the way English has become post WW2, old habbits die hard.

C'est vrai.

I learned to speak English out of convenience, rather than necessity. As a native French speaking Eastern Canadian, I could have easily lived my entire life as a monolingual. However, I've found that knowing three languages is great when it comes to negotiating remunerations :)

I was so happy to hear the french translation of EVE is coming soon !

Even if it's a bit late, this is clever move From CCP since there is a wide PC player base in France.

Futhermore, if you ever have experienced french red tape, then you know how much we love complex systems ;)

Infortunatly, if our national public education system has many good sides, it basically fails to teach foreign languages at higher levels.

French people usually can speak a basic english, but there is relatively few people who can speak english fluently.

The problem is the same with other langages by the way (german, spannish for the most part).

Merci beaucoup ( and fly safe ! )

Negative. How would the forum trolls be able to funtction if they cant understand the words??

No. You guys will just say bad things about us Murikans behind our backs, in a language we can't understand.

Just joking. Seems like a good idea to me. There are Russian, German and Japanese language forums, why not French?

Adding a forum? I don't see how it would be a huge impact to anything. Other than needing a french moderator to handle it, so maybe that's the reason we don't have one already made and being managed.

actually we're more Viking than French

The Angles who spoke Gaelic (Original British Settlers, invaded by the Romans)
Then the Saxons, Jutes and Danes came along
With the Saxons taking precedency to form the Anglo-Saxon culture in the South, where Dane Law was briefly predominant in the North.

Then the Normans came to visit.

The Normans spoke French, but they weren't French
Norman is a contracted word .. North Men (Men of the North) ... which at that time still meant Viking Lol

For actual French people you need to look at Gaul & Brittany, where they spoke Gaelic
