Since French, Italian, Portugese and Spanish are all essentially degenerate forms of Latin, why not cut costs and increase community interaction by grouping them all together (not to mention making EVE look classy as hell) and have a Latin forum?

All the google translate posts would be hilarious.

On a related note, with this, they couldnt say EVE isnt a game that requires an education anymore (like seriously, tried learning Latin to some extent in high school, pain in the butt for the most part)

Being Dutch myself I see no problem for myself to read and write in EVE using English with some grammar/syntax errors here and there without getting lost in translation.

Why do you feel it's so important that you must write in your own language that so many others do not master?

One universe, one server, why not one language?

Seriously intrigued here.

The French dont do English, possibly because of British actions and us being the old enemy or something. As such the Dutch have much better English as well as much better roads (Oh god they are like silk).

I wondered why a French forum didn't go up at the same time as the German tbh, there seem to be plenty of French speakers ingame.

If you get your subforum can we come in and practice our terrible school French on you?

Exactly....

Most will deny it but it is racism plain and simple...

I remember when I lived in Calgary. They had a large little Italy community. There was these old italian women in the country been here 40 years and REFUSED to learn English. Everything they did was to make their home and neighborhood like Italy. I asked their grand kids "why did they come here if they feel like this?" They would say "for a better life"... So how was this better?

CCP have been working hard on this, I am sure the reason its so late was do to navigating the Maginot Line.

Made a signature so I am taken seriously on the forums, since thats the only thing they are good for.

Italian would be the closest to Latin out of all of them. It's a fun language to speak and learn, much more fun to use than English when conversing. Not as effective (unless you're swearing), but still more fun.

Note: Italian-Americans are not Italians and do not speak Italian, therefore they don't count. Nearly everything that comes out of their mouth in reference to the Italian language is complete nonsense and/or utterly ridiculous. That said, getting any Italian over 40 to speak English would probably be more difficult than learning Latin. Lol

Nah, the traditional enemy thing is only a British perspective, *their* prime enemy for centuries has indeed been France, and the tabloids and yellow press (The Sun, Daily Mail, Telegraph...) like to fuel the fire today still. The French, on the other hand, have been at war repeatedly with most of´Europe, with various incarnations of the german empires for a prime enemy (the Habsburg empires, the Holy Roman Empire, the Austrian empire, Prussia, Germany) and so the French do not generally think of the British or English as The Old Enemy.

The reason the French do not speak English so well is more simple I believe: they do not need to. French is a widespread language with quite a lot of speakers and secondary speakers and a big market, which means much of everything gets translated and dubbed, that airline companies, car rental agencies, hotels etc throughout the world will have employees who speak French, that it's no trouble using translators to conduct business or diplomacy etc. It's pretty much the same reason the British or Americans can't speak other languages for the most part, they don't need to. Add to that that French was pretty much a universal language of´the educated just a few generations ago, the way English has become post WW2, old habbits die hard.
