Does a one- man, hi sec POS need defenses and weapons?
I mean, if there was a wardec, the POS could just be taken down before the war starts, right?

you _could_ take it down, yes. Totally depends on whether or not you expect that you'll be online early enough to catch an incoming dec.

edit -- though as an NPC corp person, you can't set up a POS.

Furthermore, you will need at least 5.00 (unmodified) standings with the faction whose space you want to set this up in.

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

Standings requirement is being removed once the expansion/update hits.

Yes, you can remove the POS during the 24 hour period before the war starts.

I should not have to spend Powergrid/CPU on defenses then?

My plan was to have a small Research POS and only fuel it for the time it is actively doing research jobs. Maybe rent it out. Although very soon everyone and his brother will have their own POS Roll

If you log in every day (or check notifications via api) then you do not need defenses. The only time someone can attack it in HighSec is if:

1) They are in your corp
2) You have an active wardec.

Small towers are not defensible, so no defences are needed.

on the other hand why not to place some guns\EW modules around the pos so when someone come and scout for target he will choose the one without defenses instead out of convenience?

Can I ask a related question?

I was poking around one system, and each of it's 67 moons, and every moon had a POS. Most of them were a single control tower, belonging to 1-man, seemingly inactive corps.

Does the presence of the control tower prevent another corp from building a POS at that location?

Yes, so you have to dec them and take down the tower forcibly. Unless the corp is closed, then a GM can remove it for you.

No real need for weapons, but to save your spot you may want to arm it to the teeth during a war dec instead of taking it down. I guess it depends on who is war deccing you. If you log on every day you should be fine.

Outside of war, anyone who so much as spits at your POS will be eating dirt before they take two percent off your shields.

In highsec they are. Put lots of resists on it and nobody will want to grind it down. Guns and ewar are fairly useless on a small tower.

You can't actually put a lot of resists on a small. It has enough CPU for 2 labs = 4 resists.

Now my large has a bit more (something like 9 EM alone).

I've personally been involved in destroying a small using 2 Drakes, a Raven and an Apoc (it did most of the damage). It took us maybe 4 hours. On another small, a single ECM module was extremely annoying, but easily avoidable with drones [or if you want to throw Marauders at it].

It really depends on your reason for putting up the tower in the first place.

1. labs - if this is the reason then pulling it down will cancel all your jobs and any research will be lost.
2. just a spot to sit and claim your spot in space then sure you can take it down as you need.

Ref the Pos on moons that all seem to be offline and 1 man corps. - there is a market out there where people sell these towers to corporations that don't have standings to put them up themselves, transfer its members to the new corp and away they go.
- note though that war decs against one man corps might = 25+ suddenly joining that one man corp you just paid to attack, now you have lots of people to attack you also. so consider you actions wisely :) (Risk vs Reward eve style)
