Amarr or Gallente?

Hello,

Currently, I'm a Caldari pilot. I've been running missions for a while now (and will be for a while more) but am looking for different things to do. The thing I'm most interested in is PvP(as that is what this game is mainly about, right?). But after doing some research, it seems Caldari absolutely suck at PvP (besides a few ships, but I want a bit more of a choice than just a few ships). So I want opinions on which of the two races in the title I should crosstrain for. (I don't want to use Minmatar, I just absolutely hate their ships)

From what I see, Gallente would be the logical choice, as they use Hybrids. By training up hybrids, I'd also be helping my Caldari side as some ships do use hybrids. I love the looks of many of their ships, and like drones (no matter how dumb they are at times).

But there's quite a few Amarr ships I'd love to fly (How could I not want an Abaddon?) as well. I don't have even the slightest bit of knowledge when it come to Amarr besides that I see little complaints about them (besides the godawful caps). Maybe it would be better for me to train Amarr?

So, it would be nice if you could post your opinions on what I should do.

P.S. This isn't for immediately, I still have a bit further I want to get before I feel I have the wallet to support PvP, and a good support to fall on should PvP end up not being my thing.

Well, Gallente, Yes it will help your caldari side, they have great tanks and caps, great drones and versatility, with the correct skills and fitting, blaster boats will be brilliant, drone boats, you name it.

Hope this information was usefull. pvp wise, thorax, brutix, myrmidon, talos, incursis, and mega. *edit* people who slag off hybrids generaly dont use them, havent got the skills, or have no will to try them*edit*

I wrote a long post but CCP killed it. So I'll be brief.

Gallente sucks, even after the hybrid buff. Although Gallente can do solo and small gang PvP effectively, sometimes. But training Gallente because you're Caldari and they both use hybrids is a terrible idea. Hybrids have very limited applications, and if you don't train into a different weapon system, you may be useless in a damage dealer role in many fleets.

Amarr have some good ships, armageddons and abaddons are common. Caldari has drakes, T3 drakes, and falcon alts.

Minmatar has everything you can want for PvP of all types. Solo, small gang, large fleets, close range, long range, kiting, alpha, armor, shield, good ships in every hull size and every category, selectable damage types, no cap use on guns, utility neuts, etc. Get over whatever you don't like about minmatar and train them. Or don't.

If you want to PvP, you will need to conform to fleet doctrines. That means minmatar a lot of the time. Unless you want to be part of some terrible corp with kitchen sink fleets that get murdered in every engagement by better organized opponents.

Don't wait to try PvP. Join RvB to try out casual PvP on a budget and get some experience flying with and against different ships. Eventually you should look into a corp that does whatever kind of PvP you want to do. Theres a big difference between highsec wardec corps, faction warfare, piracy, small gang nullsec corps, sov holder coalitions, wormhole corps, etc. And they don't all fly minmatar all the time.

Malice is right - there's hardly any Gallente or Amarr Ship that isn't entirely outclassed by a comparable Minmatar ship except fpr some niche roles.

The game pretty much has become Minmatar online in everything regarding subcaps. Caldari is nice to have for the Drake and Tengu, but unless you really love the hulls for some irrational reason, there's no point in training Amarr or Gallente.

Just fly a Merlin, Drake or Tengu, they are all effective ships in PVP and are all as good or better than their counterparts from other races.

Also train gallente and minmatar or minmatar and amarr. Fly a pirate faction battleship for PVP and be one of THOSE people.

I'm amarrian but I love Gurista ships.
They are cheap for cross faction and kick ass.
If you enjoy drones and you are already caldari trained with missles I highly recommend them.
You also get the gallente ships to open up as you train them. (( You'll still have to train a bit of armor and guns for this ))

Good luck.

Amarr are better than gallente, but every race sucks compared to winmatar. Gallente are pure trash, the only ships of theirs I'd fly are lachesis and ishtar. Suicide brutix if I was bored.

Winmatar is the only way to train.
