Use of Comms in Corp

I am of the opinion that Comms is a good thing but I am also a lazy so and so and rarely log in unless we are doing anything - bad mojo I know, and I am changing that myself.

is anyone in a Corp that has been successful WITHOUT Comms?

If your corp live outside high sec.. or in high sec during a war being on comms is NOT optional. At the very minimal LISTENING on comms.

Text fleets die quicker than any other fleet, under pressure. For dumber reasons too.
My 6 yr old daughter got on comms once and the FC, one Mandozer by name, totally dialled back the N***** / F***** terminology.
Which was nice.

Every corporation is different, but in general most will say that during things such as fleets and general PVP operations you have to be able to at least listen.
However, since most/many FC's prefer that people are quiet during these operations unless your a scout or similar, your rarely required to actually talk. Because of this its also generally "easy" for people who are mute to get access to corporations that has voice comms as one of their requirements.

But if your deaf things suddenly become a lot more complicated and i know that some will simply just refuse you to join their corporations, while others will be understanding and have patient members that are willing to rely messages as well as they can trough fleet/private chat.

But note, this is only during fleets.
Personally i would never wish to join a corporation that requires me to be on voice 100% of the time im actually online. Sometimes im in the mood to small chat, other times i simply want to just log on and do my own thing and be half way afk while chatting in corp chat while making dinner or watching TV or listening to music.
Of course if there is an operation that im a part of i take it for granted that i should be on voice, and if i refused to be on voice during an operation for no other reason then "i dont feel like it" the fleet should remove me.

voluntary unless in a fleet operation. even then you only need to listen and follow commands. unless of course you are fc. lol

I'm on coms when there is fleet business to do. Otherwise I'm not on coms. I have no desire to hear about other people's crappy day at work. I had one too thanks.

I once fced a gank fleet from a work computer without coms. But most of the fleet was well drilled, the warping work was delegated to scouts, and most instructions and confirmations were in broadcasts and short fleet lingo like www, jjj , L, fire and RUN. The New Order still has ad hoc fleets that run like that.

When i was young my mother requested me to write paper letters to my grandmother. It is not easy and teaches you to write down your thoughts and ideas. Because every mistake you make, every wrongly presented thing can lead to misunderstanding. And it will be solved only after some long time....

Modern people don't send letters. They just write SMS or call. This makes people speak longer and thing less about what they say. Because every misunderstanding in conversation can be solved right here.

So yes, comms are important. Because many people can't even write what they want to say Shocked

Personally after long working day the last thing i want to have is listening to general nonsense people talk in comms when they have nothing to say actually. And yes, most of the time nothing worth getting into comms is being talked.
Yes, when i'm in fleet comms are MUST HAVE but when i'm just doing my solo business i don't join comms. Or i join and mute and silence it. Win/Win

This is why I write down everything I want to say when I'm angry. It helps me to refine what I want to say instead of spouting hurtful BS out of anger. It also calms me down.
