Mission running, Rifter or Firetail?

They're both dead sexy and I'm a big fan of the "get in and kill them hard" action, are there any significant differences between the two? Primary use is L1 and L2 mission running, possibly into L3 missions down the line...

Don't bother using bling "just because it's cool", you can of course do what you want but it generally doesn't make much sense, also because cool and bling tends to attract trouble. Lvl 1 missions is best done in a destroyer, the Thrasher in your case.

True. I do loves my Thrasher, but sometimes I feel the need for speed and both the Rifter and the Firetail fit that bill quite nicely.

You'll outgrow level 1 and 2 missions very quickly.

After that you'll find that "Hard and Fast" is not quite optimal for PVE, at higher level content such as level 4s or anomalies, you'll be facing battleship and battlecruiser spammage. Machariels could do the trick in those cases. But it's easier to just tank like a brick and project damage.

Remember that whenever you have a bad day in EVE, the correct reponse is "Thank you CCP, may I please have another?"

Hard and fast does indeed work in higher end PVE, but 'fast' in this case means an Ishtar with a microwarpdrive. Moving at almost 2km/s while putting out battlecruiser-level damage and applying it almost as well as a frigate is indeed effective.

But it comes at a cost - if you mess up, you go boom.

Well...firetail is indeed pretty cool, but rifter is a lot cheaper - a lot cheaper - so when you go boom it won't dent your wallet as much.

Neither will put out enough damage to really do a level3 mission solo, I think, but just for your own amusement you could join with buddy(s) who are doing level4s (in better ship[s]) and shoot the frigs in them. Rifters are cheap enough that they are used by people (like Red v Blue and various other fighting-oriented groups) who expect to lose ships a lot. o/

Pssh. That ishtar has way too large of a tank to be interesting. Its all about the wolf or enyo! Remember to keep transversal up kids!

Have you seen how I tank my Ishtars? (Or don't tank)?

1 Damage Control II, 1 local repair module with rigs boosting it, and that's it.

Real men speed tank.

Domanique is right, AssFrigs for the win! Especially faction war missions if you don't have SB skills. You can do L3 FW missions in assault frigates easily (in fact against racial enemies they are optimally resistant for them) and L4 FW missions are possible in them or in Navy Issue cruisers, let alone T2 cruisers. It's more fun than doing them with SBs too.

SBs are more efficient though. And, of course, also frigates.
