Loot Theft - An open letter to CCP

I understand this is a touchy subject but the current situation with loot theft in EVE is needing some important changes. There will always be loot theft in some way shape or form. EVE is not a safe cuddly place nor should it ever be.

As it stands currently it in entirely to easy for a loot thief to steal someone else's loot and just dock, warp or jump to escape the consequences. It's great that they become a suspect and can be shot but that is not enough. The hunters of eve have a right to their spoils. We have the right to collect our loot or punish those that risk stealing it. I hope that some of the following suggestions will be implemented. I expect some people to say " If they do this I'll quit the game" . I also expect to get flamed heavily. But I also hope that enough people in this thread will partially agree will these ideas and respond positively.

The Suggestions

1. Crimial Dock Timers: This is a BIG one. As it stands pilots can just grab some loot from the wreck and dock right away. There are no reprocussions. Its's great that they become criminal but usually they just sit in dock range and dock right away. Make a criminal dock timer of at least 2 minutes. Also if they are being fired upon dont allow them to dock while criminal. that will stop the theives from using heavily tanked ships to just sit there till their timer is over. This idea is the most important of the others.

2. Make a delayed warp timer for a suspect. A good loot thief will just grab a small nimble ship, grab the loot and warp away. Again no reprocussions.

3. Make it possible for the loot theives corp/allaince to be war dec'd and start within say 4 hours. Much like assisting in a current war dec. 24 hours is to long for a war dec to start for a war to start against a pilot who takes loot.

4. Do not allow a suspect/crimal to jump until their timer is up and they are not being shot at.

5. Allow Kill Rights to be placed on criminals.

Anyway I am very sure that pilots out there will have more ideas to give I just wanted to start something. I appeciate CCP's time on the matter and for a great game.

Thank You

Or, alternatively, you do what everyone else in the game has to and do it yourself.

I find it laughable you want an even stronger death-penalty for petty theft than the one that is entirely enactable now.

What is it that keeps being stolen from you and in what circumstances that prevents you from stopping them with a bit of fore-thought?

Loot thieves don't get a criminal flag.

i have better idea: add security status penalty to suspect flag. Small one. But bigger than zero.
Then you have to ask youself "does it worth to steal this stuff if i will need to get my SS back?"

Actually this will hurt docking games in trade hubs.

Win/Win isn't it?

Instead, I propose that we scale back Crimewatch and have can theft only flag the thief to the owner, instead of to everyone, everywhere, ever.

And as we all know, not leaving the docking radius of a station is the exclusive right of the mercenary population of New Eden.

Skill yourself, use ships with better scan resolution and/or bump the thief.

You can't start a war against individual pilots.

There already is a timer to prevent jumping/docking, no need to expand this to other timers just because you are too dumb to prevent your loot being stolen.

5. Allow Kill Rights to be placed on criminals.

This is already implented, as soon as someone gets a criminal flag, a killright is created which can be assigned to everybody in Eve.

Also, you are using the wrong forum for your delicious tears.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

Using a weapon as a deterrent in a diplomatic situation is only viable when you have proven that you have deployed it in the past and are willing to use it in the future.

You want to not be able to dock when under fire? And you want to give can theft a 120 seconds dock timer, twice as long as the 60 second aggression timer with no warping abilities?

  1. The reason that there are no repercussions is because very few people shoot at them, most mission runners don't even notice people in the mission pockets until they go suspect, and if you're shooting at war targets and lose the loot to an opportune thief I suggest that you have your own looters that are quicker off the mark.

  2. How will that help? How will crimewatch distinguish between a loot thief and any other suspect?

  3. Is your loot worth the cost of a wardec? You can't wardec individuals and if what you suggest came to pass people would loot with NPC alts, try wardeccing an NPC corp.

  4. This would affect everybody with a suspect or criminal flag, it's a stealth nerf to all criminal activities in highsec, including those carried out by groups that Marmite members participate in and are blue to.

  5. The clue is in the name, kill rights as they stand are fine, stealing your loot is not the same as non consensually violating your space canoe.

Someone got their Veldspar stolen IMO. Ship it back to station next time, carebear.

These "ideas" are pretty stupid. Everyone should literally point and laugh at the screen. No really. Point, Laugh.

If you need the game to be made even easier for you with poorly though out game mechanics that only benefit one type of player, you should probably learn how to play properly and stop hugging station undocks in the hope of easy kills.

It's a shame Marmite don't know someone whose expert at producing verbiage for just this type of thing.
