So... M.O.M. conversions are coming? I would not be surprised to hear about a company named Mindwerks doing this.

I wonder how many people will get this reference.

This reminds me heavily back to the game "MGS4:Guns of the patriots". The method was different by using nanomachines to controll emotions on the battlefield. Like post traumatic stress or you would feel less pain when beeing shot etc. Alot of this stuff in the OP has primary applications for the military. And i think before this stuff actually gets public military spec ops are going to use them before any 1 else.

Im worried that the rich people will get way too much of an edge with the ability to learn anything in record time. On the other hand this could aswell mean as soon this starts research will skyrocket. You got to think of it that knowledge is achieved by years of studys. Just think of the possibilitys when you could learn all the scientific knowledge achieved by now within like 4-5 minutes? And by the time reasearch progresses implants are getting cheaper due to reduced manufacturing costs. Or when you are searching a new job you are not tied to it what you learned but instead you "download" a new job and could start instantly.

I bet whomever wrote that article saw that one gif of the deaf kid listening to his dad for the first time, right after watching Ghost in the Shell.

This is as nice as I get. Best quote ever https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=4137165#post4137165

I liked how it made people pooh.

Oh Kojima, you scatologically-obessed history-deficient old nutter, you!

Only if it's a German company doing the R&D. Most likely it's actually Japanese, and thus will be a company with Otomo somewhere in the name.

And everyone was full of talcum powder for some reason

Also, watch the scene at the end when the uprising occurs

Those facist cops cant even see the riot in their stupid no-peripheral vision helmets and only react when the enemy are like 30cm away lol

You guys DO realize that some ******* in the Pentagon thought Halo was a presentation, not a video game, and immediately ordered DARPA to "get on this project, NOW"....

Seriously. The chuckleheads in DC want real-life SPARTAN-II's, and they're not going to stop until they have them.

Honestly, h+ and forced mass distribution of genetically modified organisms are the only things that would justify a use of a nuclear weapon.

I'm pacifist and humanist, by the way and value each and every human life. But there should be a "Reset" button for some stuff.

First thing to be done when genetically modifying life should be the removal of reproductive capabilities to avoid gene pool pollution and uncontrolled proliferation. Really, there should be a law for that. Failure to comply should result in sterilization of the facilities down to the last microbe.

I think the medical applications would be interesting, especially to restore or rewire some brain functions to those who are missing them due to genetics, circumstance (paralysis), or old age (ie: Alzheimer's). I imagine these implants could work in tandem with prosthetics like a replacement eye or leg.

Anyway, it was a good article. Thanks for posting it.

Is it a Rifts reference? I remember playing a Gunslinger who got chopped in half by a couple Juicers and a deebee five minutes into my first time playing while trying to rob a bar..

Like all technologies, people will find ways to use it for negative means. I'm all for the transhumanist agenda. In my research for my school papers terms like "Bio-Luddite" were already beginning to pop up. I believe it's unavoidable at this point but the moral-ethical ramifications of using such technology will impact the way we think of life and how we view other life-forms. Life extension technology will push us to the point of near immortality in similar ways to capsuleers where the lives of "normal people" don't matter. They are below us for most caspuleers. Technically our ships have crews but blow ships up for arbitrary reasons like "LULZ". Granted I know this is merely a video game but we could easily head towards a culture like capsuleers where "normal lives" don't really matter to us because we view ourselves as better or gods. Of course we could head into a way similar to sleepers and live in a VR environment harming nobody or we could push ourselves into extinction...who knows.

The four technologies of transhumanists:
Nanotechnology
Biotechnology
Information Technology
Cognitive Science

People: "You shouldn't burn bridges." Me: "I don't, I bomb them from orbit."

Utter nonsense

At least because the majority will never be able to afford it, and the tinfoils will rail against it, and like cloning and organ farming it will be banned for religious and psuedo-moralistic reasons.

It doesn't take tinfoil to see how these technologies open up tremendous possibilities for abuse.
It's also not unreasonable to believe that cybernetic augmentations and other transhumanist technologies will bring about unprecedented and unpredictable changes across all of human society, good or bad.

You may or may not believe in the technological singularity conjecture but technological advancement over human history has followed an exponential curve, and it's reasonable to expect that this trend will continue. The inventions of a fully functional quantum computer and of a post-silicon deterministic computer would be two of the last hurdles before a singularity event.

Enjoying the rain today? ;)
