Achievement System For New Players

For the new player experience and to encourage new players to actually experience the game rather then burning out in 3 days running pointless missions why doesn't CCP add an achievement system much like other games. Give them points and badges they can display. Might even spice the game up for older players. This is a key part to most games. The faction warfare system is an attempt but a half ass one in the least that new players rarely learn about before they quit the game. The recent celebration even made me notice eve has the potential for this and its fun.

Examples would be:

First 100, 1000, 100000 units and so on of different types of ores

Entering a 0.4 and lower system, entering a 0.0 system.

First 1, 10. 100 pvp kills

First 1, 10, 100 pve npc type kills

First X amount m3 loot, isk of bounties, isk sold or bought on market, items manufactured and so forth.

The possibilities are endless.

Has anyone ever looked at http://www.evescore.com/ which is a website that is working on such a system third party for EVE-Online. So far it is limited to npc bounties and kills through wallet api info. Would be nice is ccp took one from this guys and put a system in game.

I think the most common argument such a proposal will be that we want newbs out going boom, not doing PVE stuffs.

People already complain about agent missions being used for tutorials because it makes new players think EVE is about missions instead of going boom.

I think the only tutorial that some people would approve us is one that taught you to go to low sec and have your ship go boom to other players.

You get achievements when you set your own goals and complete said goals. The game should not give you a list of badges to earn... you make your own list...

So... no...

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

I think Steam has their own independent achievement system for certain games, not originally supported in the game itself.

This was added to X3:TC (solo play game) which didn't really subtract or detract from the game. As usual I just focused on what I wanted to do.

I don't think these would be particularly useful or rewarding for a player new to EVE who is trying out different things. Patronising, certainly...

Also, no offense, but your examples are mundane and rather uninspiring. Too basic, everybody will have one, and there is no bragging value (surely the whole point). For X3:TC there was a limited number and most of them were quite extreme. For EVE context imagine a badge for solo killing 100 Battleships, or for kill whoring on 1,000,000 CONCORD kills.

The public/private question was not rhetorical because if these are made public then you're giving away free intel.

They just counters. So, i've killed 15 000 rats, and? Are we there yet?
I remember mindless farming rep in WoW for achies, and for what?
What will tell you achie that says i killed 10000 players in PvP? Am i good at PvP, good FC in PVP, or just i'm just regular PvP grunt?

This is a great resume Mr. Hendrix but are you experienced?

check how old this char is - I have I think a grand total of 5 kills, maybe 5; because that's not the path I've chosen to go down:

if you want goals - they should include:

join player corporation
train your first skill to lvl 5
reach 10M sp (or maybe it should be less, say 1M)
plug in first implant
make your first jump clone
build your first ship
get your first PVP kill
mine out your first asteroid
run your first lvl 2 (maybe lvl 3)

these badges should be about getting people to try different things - low goals in a wide variety of different professions

any long term goals should be your own or the game stops being fun.

For posting an idea into F&I: come up with idea, try and think how people could abuse this, try to fix your idea - loop the process until you can't see how it could be abused, then post to the forums to let us figure out how to abuse it..... If your idea can be abused, it WILL be.
