So what's so good about Skyrim?

To be found? Most of the more unique items are gained through either quests and/or crafting/enhancements. One example would be the Daedric quests. I mean if you don't mind chasing a talking dog half-way across Skyrim lol
Anyway it's more about story and less about uber equipment. I mean at some point, I'd think it'd get pretty boring 1 hitting everything. So you are forced to have a lot of different gear for the encounter, rather than just one set of god-mode gear that deals with everything.

Well, the difficulty of the game should go up if there is powerful equipment in the game. However, like I mentioned the difficulty in skyrim is pretty much scaled to match your character. This means any powerful equipment would break the balance. The result is that it barely matters what equipment you use and the player can prefer the equipment that looks the nicest (or something like that).

It's not just about power either. The items in Skyrim are not interesting. Here's an example: in TES 3: Morrowind there's an item called Scroll of Icarian flight. It boosts your acrobatics by 1000, giving you the ability to jump pretty much over the land (island?) or Morrowind. Now that's interesting. And fun. There are plenty more of these fun items and spells.
In Skyrim the only interesting (not powerful) item is Wabbajack(?) which is essentially a magic wand that has a random effect on its target. The only somewhat powerful item I came across was a mask I got from one of those undead lich characters.

In Morrowind you can also craft your own magical items and even give them constant effects. For example you can craft a ring that gives you constant telekinesis. Of course you need a powerful soul and lots of money to do this.
In Skyrim you're restricted to the exact magic and powers you took from existing items. So you can never craft a truly powerful item.

The thing I miss the most about Morrowind is the challenge in the exploration. There was no magical compass with quest markers and locations. There were directions that you had to follow. In Skyrim you just follow the magical compass :(

These are just a couple of examples that I'm using to make a point. That point is that Skyrim is dumbed down.

Sorry but I feel somewhat strongly about the direction the gaming industry has taken in the past 10 years or so.
Games these days are too easy, too accessible (hate that word) and too casual. They're aimed at large audiences which means they cannot have mature themes or strong language. This means the games lack depth.

I'm not saying Skyrim is a bad game. I'm saying that the gaming industry is bad and that Skyrim could have been a lot better if it wasn't for the casual gamer. Still, according to steam I spent 62 hours playing Skyrim which means I enjoyed it to some extent.

Also, Skyrim was a lot better than Oblivion which was pretty horrid.

Its easily moddable, looks great on even my anemic system.
After you have been modding it for a while you forget where stuff came from, like this fecker, scared the absolute **** out of me and i have no idea where it came from.
It often derps, pretty hilariously as well, you know kind of like waching a kitten fail at stuff

What the **** dude? I don't even know what to think of this one.. you like Morrowind and Skyrim to some extent but refer to Oblivion as "horrid"?

Not sure what your beef is but man to me that was one of the greatest games ever made, maybe it's because I played it at a pretty young age but it was such a huge game at the time and there has never been anything quite like it (except for Skyrim).

Such an epic game. Ur fuk'd.

Holy Satanic Christ! This is a Goddamn Signature!

I hear someone is working on a mod to get Cliff Racers into skyrim.

Not having god-mode equipment makes it more skill/tactical based. I carry many types of weapons and multiple sets of armor, half my weight in necessary gear. There are items that give constant effect, but yeah you are still unable to craft your way to god-mode your character unless you mod such items into the game. It's very good design imo. I don't want to play god-mode out of the box.

As for the compass and all that, wat? I'm here to break the news to you then that you are playing it wrong. Look at this screen short here and tell me what is missing. Though I cropped down the past two screen shots I posted, you don't even see cross-hairs in those shots. This shot is un-cropped, though scaled down for friendly interwebs screenshots. You can see the health bar and text on the scree to show it's not exaggerated. We play different I think, I really like the challenge... though reloading after a defeat can be annoying, yet still fun to push myself to do better. And in this shot, was definitely no one-hit encounter. If you don't like how easy it is, you make it harder. You didn't do that so you are just complaining how easy it is? What is so nice about Skyrim, Oblivion and Morrowind for that matter, is game play is not set in stone, you can make it more challenging. They designed it to fit your idea of how it should play, to change it to your liking, you are not stuck with it's out of the box state.

Skyrim like Oblivion (which was freaking awesome btw, especially knights of the nine) doesn't just scale up, it also upgrades random encounter types. So like if you notice for instance, there are different dragons, there are some more powerful types. You don't see those at lower levels, only until you level up then it will not only scale but upgrade. You don't see the change in static encounters, those are more scripted and simply scale, but in open world the random encounters usually upgrade.

skyrim is perhaps my favorite game of all time lol.

i liked oblivion a lot as well...well...as long i completely ignored the main quest. lol

fallout 3 and new vegas, also love these.

the ease and availability of mods make bethesda games have a life of their own far beyond the scope and play through time of the vanilla releases. i mean...who wouldn't want to see a naked man swimming in a sea of cabbage? the possibilities are basically endless (within the bounds of the creation tools engine)

I actually enjoy it quite a bit. I like the ability to role play different characters. My main is a hunter. I literally will sit there in my camp and just watch the sun set. Smile

So speaking of Mods, what is your #1 mod?

I think mine is the followers mod. So not only can I clear out my followers inventory and force them to equip whatever I drop in, but I can easily post guards around my homestead to shew off teh usual dragon plopping down from the sky next to my animal pen gobbling up my chickens and cow. And they were useful in the civil war and also assaulting castle volkihar, if for anything dramatic effect with the armies clashing. Of course they are only useful for certain situations, they just get in the way when doing day to day stuff.
