A counter measure to what?

If something can't hurt you, it doesn't need a counter.

CCP need to put a timer on cloaky campers, and once timer runs out, some sort of sovereignty device can decloak and even web and scram them so sov renters/owners can pop their unsporting ass.
I thought of this as we have a cloaky in our system, and knowing how CCP pride themselves on how Eve has no real game rules, and 'Hot-droppers' will suffer if any other method was implemented, so a timer on some sort of modual/sov-modual with a set timer of say, 3hrs?, (allows hot-drops, makes it interesting), and after the timer is triggered, the offender cant log off let alone do anything else, so SOV owners/renters can blow up offender and pod for good measure.

Take this a step further and put a modual on gates so once a camper has been 'busted' the gate wont allow them in or at least penalize the known camper by killing the cloaking device!.

Currently there seems to be no cure for the cloaky campers, and pilots go play other games while being camped, CCP this does mean your subscribers may find a different game to enjoy and discontinue with Eveonline.

Ditch the rules, create counter measures.

Hi, I'm a website programmer, and owner of the website http://sociopath-community.com. I spend a lot of time working at my computer, and I don't really enjoy the elitist leadership in most corporations. I, instead, choose to spec toward curse and pilgrim, and harass large corporations with my cloaky.

This is the only way I have of getting back at the big corperations and making them suffer. Please dont take it from me!

Not 'taking' anything away, merely suggesting to add to the game!

It's a stupid idea. The responses in the thread are even worse. Pretty much sums up why very few people come on here to discuss their ideas.

Something really rubs me the wrong way that now 'sov renters' is a commonly used term and we don't **** on renters speaking on the forums without the permission of their overlords like we used too.

Making threads on the forums about getting cloaky camped is a great way ensure it continues.

If you're actually getting dropped on by expensive ****, though, be sure to contact someone about counter-drops.

I spend quite a bit of time ratting in 0.0 and to date i have never parked myself in a hostile system and gone AFK.

I also rat in systems where there is usually at least one or two turd burglars doing this to us. Sometimes I get ganked, boo hoo. I reship, wait a while, and start again. I'm sorry you can't handle risk in nullsec but that's just how it goes. Deal with it.

Instead of stopping people from sitting in a system cloaked, would it be beneficial to change how cloaked characters are displayed in local chat?

A person jumps into system, goes to a safe, and cloaks. If at least 30 minutes (or however long) have passed since activating their cloak module and they haven't entered warp during that time then they disappear from local. (So it would also be 30 minutes since their last warp) At any time if they drop cloak, enter warp, or speak in local chat then they appear in local again. Moving around on the same grid while cloaked would not make them appear and would not affect them disappearing from local.

Cloaking in a system is still possible, but you can get an idea if someone becomes active again if they start warping around. Might not have enough time to do much about it if it's a fast warping ship though, but at least there will be a little extra warning before a cyno is suddenly lit on top of you.

A cloaked person that is not visible in local could still be tracked down by agents and would still show online/offline status in contacts.

I have no idea how possible this is from a development standpoint though or how unbalanced this might be. Or if it even really solves anything. But I'd still be interested in thoughts from other people.

All very good points (no pun) so here is my take. What about a sonar ping like technology on a prober. You have to have mad skills for it and it can only be used once in a certain like (ie doomsday, ECM burst) and when you ping them it renders their cloak O.O.S. for a certain duration and/or damaged that can be repaired by Nanopaste. Then you probe out the cloaker and if he/she is afk... pop. It prevents the cloaky camper from just sitting around. Or make the module to ping them come from a POS.

Just an idea. Anchoring 5 and Scanning 5 needed? Go ahead let me have it.

While I don't support the OP's idea, I do think some limitation on the cloaking device is needed, such as a Fuel or a Overheat timer would make it a little harder on the cloakers to stay cloaked indefinitely, while still allowing them to actually do their little camping effort.

Fuel: A gas or isotope or similar used as fuel to maintain the modules availability.

Overheat timer: after say 2 hours use the module must shut down to cool down before becoming available again.

I have read most of the original threads on this topic, and all I have seen is cloakers crying about it because they might loose their one advantage in game.

I would say that a limitation on the device is needed, but within reason, The device does still have its uses.

Just switching it off would b eenough.

However seeming as the only argument against AFK cloaking is it makes renters nervous ... I see no real reason to change it at all.

Greetings

Thread is being locked as this horse is dead. By this I mean to say that this topic in every form has been hashed over by the best and the worst of us. Also in the future please be sure to post ideas about how to improve the game and discussion of mechanics or modules in the Features and Ideas (F&I) forums. Where this post will also be moved to.

The Rule that covers this is:

16. Redundant and re-posted threads will be locked.

As a courtesy to other forum users, please search to see if there is a thread already open on the topic you wish to discuss. If so, please place your comments there instead. Multiple threads on the same subject clutter up the forums needlessly, causing good feedback and ideas to be lost. Please keep discussions regarding a topic to a single thread.

Remember, post well, post original, and post often my friends.

How about we get an actual discussion going on the merits for and against limitations of the Cloaking device instead of abuse and spam? or is that too hard for some?
