Belated good move by CCP. Ever since DUST was announced as a PS3 exclusive we've been telling them it's a dreadful mistake and PC is the natural home of a game set in the EVE universe. Perhaps finally CCP will get the message that we're not dumb, we know what we want and we know what we'd pay for. You cannot just produce any old crap and expect people to happily chow down, you have to listen to your customers and fulfill their needs.

It actually makes me very hopeful that the people making the big decisions have it right. The PS3 is a discontinued platform, so they need to change platform at some, not too distant, point in time.
Since Dust has had a meager reception at best on console, they can either go sunk-cost fallacy and throw good money after bad to try to appease the small player-base, or they can make the only logical decision at this point, and move to a platform that never obsoletes itself (I can and do still play PC games from literally 20 years ago).
That CCP have swapped platform rather than digging themselves into a hole by trying to move to PS4 shows they're willing to take a huge blow to the chin if it means winning the fight. CCP might make a lot of mistakes, but they don't have a glass jaw.

If it's going to be stupid micro transactions, I'll still play. There was this game (wont mention name) I was in early beta then open beta. I carried a sub as it wasn't f2p. Eventually it went f2p, I ran with an f2p account and spent money. I went from spending $15/m to about $3/mo. Played another year, the community changed, it sucked, I stopped playing. I pref a nice tight community subscription game, but I'll still play if it's f2p... and probably spend very little.

They would be better off doing something like Quake Live does, and no real pay to win. Limited free and premium accounts on a sub. Yes, QL operates off of a subscription model.

I played Dust for about three days when it hit beta. I never picked it up again. Poor design, lack of meanful EVE interaction, bad balance, poor performance. I was personally disappointed when I was told it was coming out on PS3. I gave it a bit of a trial and was only reinforced in my opinion that it would not be a good game. I don't know a single EVE player that has particpated or cared about Dust or it's limited options for EVE interaction.

I am not convinced it will be a successful PC game either until they can make it interact meaningfully with EVE. In terms of EVE, nobody cares about Dust and there is no reason to.

We were always promised that we could land troops to take out someone else's PI and hire mercenaries to defend our own.

This needs to happen in legion.

Well, I asked for this for years. I always played Eve and one FPS game but COD2 is old and it's hard to find servers, so I have waited.

In a few weeks I will start building a new PC with an eye on Legion.

I wonder what the hardware requirements will be?

Does anyone know if the engine is Unreal 4 since that's also what Valkyrie uses? (and Dust is Unreal 3 so that seems like a logical progression).

That said they shouldn't have had DUST players fly out to Fanfest just to hear about their game getting the cold treatment.

I'm hoping it will have better music/sfx than the console version. I'm getting tired of blacklight. I need my futuristic cyberpunk warfare fix Roll

I've been told I'm somewhat famous, no idea why...

If your a dedicated Dust ps3 player I suspected you are a bit pissed atm. But since there are only about 2,000 of them from CCP's own numbers then I think they have done the math and decided a F2P PC shooter just makes more sense.

What they should be doing is looking at who made the decision to go with ps3 in the first place.

If I could run an eve client on one screen and a legion on the other then that is going to be something interesting for certain. I wonder how long til Legion rolls out.

Anyone get any indication around the release date?

TBH I am kinda excited by the idea of Valkyrie and legion and EVE all on the same platform. Looks like PC gaming is going to really take off, already saving my pennies for an occulus.

Good times.

Pretty much what they said when the XBox was announced. You're not going to claim any of the market share if you never try.

We were not "always promised" that. It was the original design idea that got Dust off the ground. A vision statement is not a promise.

Don't be so negative about that allot of people wanted Dust 514 to be on PC from the start and I was one of those people who would enjoy Dust on PC.

I knew from the start that Dust 514 dose not work on the console that well or would be limited to the hardware that the PS 3 has.

And over time the PS 3 is now redundant technology and the PS 4 has taken over.

With The PC you can upgrade the graphic card and the hardware in the computer.

But with a console you cannot upgrade the hardware to the same extent as a PC.

I hope this gives the console players some light on the hardware restrictions compare to a PC.

Someone started to me in RL quite a few years ago, that the console market would take over the PC market will I sorry to say the technology for the console still dose not match the PC Technology and the PC market has made a come back and will get stronger again.

100% true. Console players can be converted if properly shown the light.

My cousin was a console player right up to the point when I let him Cyrsis 2's Blackfire mod at 120fps ultra settings on my game rig. Every 5 seconds he was like "OMFG I can't believe what this looks like!! OMG OMG OMG!!" Big smile

Every time he comes over now, he wants to play Crysis 3 for a little while to get his fix. Roll

.

Dusts player base are mostly console only so they lack any real experience with decent games and refer to shtty games like mag as if they were amazing when really they just don't know any better.

CCP was drawing feedback from the deprived, how could they have thought it'd work lol.

I will surely be contributing to the FPS front.. While I am enjoying the space sim portion, I do tend to get competitive in FPS'..

In U.T. I could crack into the top 100 when I would play regular. here is an old 2k4 video we did to announce a modded server launch (I'm the red guy) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wz0DnP7wXnU - as a side note, the blue guy there was rated 22nd in the world at the time, Can probably talk him into dust with little effort.

CCP has been getting feedback from the depraved around here for so long, perhaps someone in DUST marketing had dyslexia and/or just got the two confused.

I don't care that you don't care about Dust coming to PC.

About frickin' time, CCP!Big smile

have you actually tried playing it on the playstation? It's not going to fare any better on the PC. Dust is rubbish. Nowhere near EVE standards.

This would be why they are rebuilding it from scratch, only using the stuff from DUST that actually worked, rather than simply porting DUST 514 to PC.

CCP is a company that develops based on trial and error, and given the amount of error in the development of DUST 514 on the PS3, it is likely they learned a few things. All the stuff that in hindsight they would have done differently, they will now have a chance to do differently.

I am personally a little disappointed as after 16 months of playing DUST 514 I was finally starting to get the hang of that cluncky consul controller, and given that I play EVE on a Mac currently, this means I will probably have to buy a Gaming computer (and a computer that will run Legion and EVE at the same time on different monitors is not going to be cheap!), but as far as what is best for the game, and what will allow them to finally achieve the original vision behind DUST, this was probably the right move.

It's a shame we lose the DUST title though.

Not necessarily. Project Legion is the code name for the development project, not the final name of the game they are developing. EVE:Legion is just what we are all using as a working title.
