Access to Old Ship Models (NES, Ship Customization, or other means)

One of the biggest draws to this game for me was the outlandish and asymmetrical design of some of my favorite ships, such as the old Scorpion, the old Stabber and the old Tristan model. And, call me a weirdo, but my very favorite ship design in the game was the Chris Foss-esque Moa. That too is now lost.

I'd like to know if the developers of this game would be interested in implementing a way to buy back the older models, so that old dogs like me can fly around in our ugly pieces of junk if we really want to. And I really want to. I would pay cashy monies just to have my old ugly Stabber back, and to keep my Moas and my Gilas the way they are.

I would get the previous Golem in a heart beat. No animation is no biggy. Anything to fix those wings and change the flat head ...

Once upon a time the Golem had a Raven hull and it looked good. Then it transformed into a plataduck. The end.

I'll meet you somewhere in the middle on this, it would be cool to have Display Models for the Captains Quarters/Ship Spinning of the old ships, but they can't undock.
(I'm guessing that there will eventually be Technical reasons why they won't work in space because of graphics engine changes, but in a closed environment like CQ/Ship Hangar you don't need to run the main code and can run older variations of the code :) )

No, they're absolutely horrible and need to die. Sorry...

I am currently away, traveling through time and will be returning last week.

That's a matter of opinion. I personally feel that the newer models are pretty much generic space shooter knock off ship designs with gimmicky moving parts (like the Intrepid class star ship from Star Trek Voyager), but I can understand that is just my opinion and that a lot of other people go for that stuff. I just want the ability to buy back the older models that I prefer because, for me, the newer models are "absolutely horrible."

That will make the game look worse due to the poorer graphics quality of those outdated models, and rather than update them to use better textures I'd rather they just released more content and newer, shiner looking ships!

PS: New Moa looks awesome, way to make one of the ugliest ducklings into a beautiful swan!

How much time do you really plan to spend looking at my ship? Or are you saying that there would be so much demand for older models that it would intefere with your personal tastes? Why completely trample on this request if it doesn't effect the appearance of your own ships and probably most of the others in space?

I'm just asking to be able to buy an old model for my ship.

I'd rather they simply focus their efforts on making their designs stand out and be as unique as the designs their replacing, rather than looking interchangeable with any other sci-fi setting out there, but this seems like a decent compromise, and a great use of the ship-customization system we'll (hopefully) be seeing before long.

Always thought it would be nice for remodels if all built ships in the game stayed the old model until repackaged/rebuilt. Yes people with rigs would ***** but f'kem! Would be a bit of a resource drain right enough.

I'm for it. Moa is such a monstrosity, it should be preserved for posterity. In my hangar, if possible.

For varitation it would be good if all the ship models were available, with the different slot layouts, now i know this would completely unbalance everything but it would create a lot more variation.

I agree that there may be technical difficulties involved in preserving the old models in such a way that they work with every graphics feature such as custom painting. I am willing to give up those features when buying a vintage hull. But I personally would not settle for a Display Model that can't undock. I will continue to fight for a buyable vintage hull that I can bring out into space, fully loaded and ready to explode (or explode things).

Caldari 5, what other technical problems can you foresee, did you have anything specific in mind? I'd like to be able to think of solutions or workarounds that would make undocking a real possibility if it isn't one already. Any DEVs should feel free to jump in here and trample my petty dreams Blink, but be prepared to face some well-mannered persistence on my part.

I'd rather they do that as well. Unfortunately, we're outnumbered on that front. I think our only chance is through the Noble Exchange*, although, I honestly haven't read everything about ship customization. If there is to be a separate UI for that then I may have to change the title of this post.

I had similar thoughts when CCP first redesigned the Stabber. Like, maybe we could keep our older weaker Stabbers with the original stats, layout, and hull (artwork). Throw it a bone, like maybe the ability to remove rigs without destroying them. It's a cool idea and all, but I'm afraid the effort involved in making that happen would make it a very unpopular idea with the DEVs. That does not mean that ideas like that shouldn't be brought up. Fire away.

By the way, thank you everyone for your support.

* EDIT: Noble Exchange was removed with Kronos update on June 3 2014. Instead, AUR transactions are made through the New Eden Store (NES)

How about NOT on the NeX? Just make it an option in the manufacturing process or something.

Not that I'd like to see the old models back, personally. I just dislike the noble exchange and want to see it die.

There are so many issues with having old models that I don't think it's feasible from programmers POV.

While I hate the old Scorpion design, there is little reason apart from the time and effort it would take to update the old models for them to not do this.

Hmmm... Jovian skins would be cool.

I'm sure they would if it was easy to do. I doubt it is.
