WANT

I am going to MAKE time to come back to EVE proper so I can plug into all of these things. Given their hinted bonuses, I think these might wrest Gurista ships from the title of 'potential favourite faction'.

You cannot argue against taste of design since this is highly subjective, however I can at least say that the decade old models were designed with more limited technology than we have today. The new models have a way higher polygon count and way more details than the old ones,

This here, is specifically the one part of the moa revamp that I agree with, however I believe that the new design overall is worse, because they went from something different and unique, following the Caldari style of being realistic, and not conforming to OCD aysymmetry, to now looking like just any other run of the mill mirrored ship design.

I liked the old style. Not because it's unpopular now, but because it had a uniqueness to it. I'd be all in favour of a complete change, as long as it maintained that distinct path away from symmetry, that crutch that CCP's art team has fallen on.

Oh. As for the ships in this thread; the frigate and cruiser look suite, the battleship, well for what it is, it looks stupid. As some sort of e-war or drone/fighter platform, maybe blown up as a carrier, it'd be pretty nice.

I estimate the polycount in this dra^Wpictures to be... exactly zero.

Anyways, can't afford to lose a couple of these, so, meh.

Also the flying aircraft carrier from Captain America needs to be a drone ship.

When I look at the battleship all I see is one of the landing pads in missions only it has thruster strapped to it.

Some people are like Slinky's, Not much good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs.

I don't agree with "not fitting in Eve" design thing, because it is a faction which was not represented until today, so they bring a totally new design approach with them. Sansha for example also "does not fit" into Eve by that logic because they have spikes and no other ship in Eve offers something remotely similar. Yet no one complains. We have asymmetrical and vertical designs, now we get flat designs.

Also, once all the older ship models are redesigned, it won't look too diferent. Right now it seems that way because some of the old ships are made of like 100 polygons and offer nearly no detail in comparison, they look bulky with large areas of smooth surfaces, Dominix is a good example. On the other hand, ships like T3 and redesigned covert ops bombers look more like it.

Maybe I like them because they are remotely based on modern jet fighters. During fanfest stream the design dude said that he got his inspiration form the F22 and F117 - since modern jets are the awesomest looking piece of hardware humanity has ever made, I see nothing wrong with it. Better than looking like randomly thrown together piece of junk. Unusual design is not bad, but if it looks like **** and just for the unusualness sake, I rather take usual but good looking design.

I still remember when I started playing Eve I had to decide which race to pick, I would have ended up with Caldari, however exactly the ships that are being redesigned now, or were already, Raven, Moa, Osprey... made me choose Minmatar instead. Their ships had that Mad Max appeal and it was cool. Moa, not so much.

Edit: One thing I do agree, the battleship doesn't look very good. That enormous flat area seems to serve no purpose and just increases the area where it can be hit. Since drones are stored on the inside and dont sit on that landing pad, I can't think of anything else that would make sense.

Something else, does somebody know already whether they will be shield or armor tanked or mixed?

Of course we could consider inspiration from other sources

Pretty cool designs. The shapes of the frig and cruiser remind me of Tacit Blue.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that noticed this. There is definitely some Tacit Blue inspiration in the mix.

Now if we could just talk the team into giving these ships say a 20% lower than average for their class sig radius... Of course something that could really add some flavor is that against Amarr they have say a 50% sig reduction bonus because the Amarr still use Radar.

As a "stealth" ship they should probably have the lowest signature radius of any battleship, although with all the launchers sticking out all over the place that kind of seems to defeat the purpose. I wouldn't actually mind seeing the launchers recessed or hidden on this class of ships.

I am currently away, traveling through time and will be returning last week.

Oh please, they're not shaped for stealth. The black paint is just for intimidation purposes[1]. They're shaped for aerohydrodynamics as befitting their announced "slightly slower than Angels" speed.

Yeah, polygon based graphics engines cannot render curves (a curve is actually made of a lot of little triangles) so the poly count will be pretty high in the end.
