Time to extend the skill queue

The skill queue is a peculiar mini game in EVE. What keeps players tied to Eve is that damn skill queue. Even if you dont plan on playing that day or week, you still have to log in just to adjust skills. A feature that should at least have an external way of adjusting. Hell, even allow it to be adjusted via the forum/character profiles.

What the justification for limiting the skill queue is beyond me. How does logging in to adjust it then logging out help the Eve expereince at all?

So with that, I suggest extending the skill queue or allowing players to adjust the current limited queue via an external website.

Time for old-fart-mode

Just be glad you have a skill que man, i remember what this game was like before them and that was down-right silly... 24h is fine, you wanna be away from game for a while longer pick a long skill or ask a friend...

My current default "long skill for vacations" is Capital ships 5

You need to let go of the past if you want to move on into the future. The old "it used to be worse so let it be" doesnt cut it.

If we all thought like this, Eve would still have lame 2003 graphics and features.

This.

The too often repeated idea that some stoned player will forget that they only logged in to change skills, and start playing, is delusional.

In a game with so many meta-gaming connections, you already know when your friends need you, if you cared to know.
You saw them in the IM channels you were logged into, or saw a forum post days beforehand with an event scheduled.

If you logged in just to bump skills, you already decided to log out because you either never had the time or desire to play to begin with.

Making the skill queue more user friendly is good for everyone.

Except that stoned guy. He stayed logged in.
Sure, he is blowing up corp mates, but at least he is still online, right?

i don't get the big deal about logging in once every so often and dragging and dropping things that means you need a longer skill queue that still won't change the issue of having to log in once every often to drag and drop new skills.... logging in on tuesday instead of thursday doesn't really change anything.

If they made some apps for non PC clients that would be dandy. Most people now have smartphones or tablet devices and I think this could alleviate problems with skill training if you went on holiday for instance. Also the idea that your friend could log into your account is absurd since it is against the EULA to share accounts.

I've had on more than one occasion where I logged in to add a skill, only to find a target of opportunity in our WH and get a fight or kill out of it.

No one cares… Well, at least no one but bitter old vets. How about this: Anyone paying ($) for their subscription should get an expanded skill queue - no questions asked. Whether those players login every day or only once a month, they're the ones actually generating the revenue for EVE.

I am currently away, traveling through time and will be returning last week.

No - some players generate content, which is not the same. You can try to equate that with revenue, but at the end of the day while content may attract players - it ultimately doesn't pay for the game.

Regardless of who creates content which every player also creates, if you own an account which is not on trial and not run out of subscription time then you are generating money for EVE.

Maybe set the Skill Training Queue up to be similar to ISIS.

You have the main skill that you are training for lets say Drones. You drag and the drop the Drones primary skill book into the Skill Queue Slot. Then based on you Advanced Skill Learning level skill would determine how may additional slots you would have available to train skills under the skill Drones.

Advanced Skill Learning Skill Book Cost 100,000,000 ISK - Pre-requisites : Cybernetics Level 5, Infomorph Psychology Level 5, , Infomorph Synchronizing Level 5 Adv. Infomorph Psychology Level 5 and Hot Dog Making Level 5.

Level One Advanced Skill Learning : 1 slot / two hour train time
Level Two Advanced Skill Learning : 2 slots / ten hour train time
Level Three Advanced Skill Learning : 3 slots / 2 day train time
Level Four Advanced Skill Learning : 4 slots / 7 day train time
Level Five Advanced Skill Learning : 5 slots / twenty day train time

Once the pre-requisites have been learned then the use of the ASLK can be trained. The ASLK would have a draw back as well similar to the T3 Cruiser skill loss that if you are using the ASLK at the time of combat and are podded you would lose 200%( each hour being considered a 50% training modifier) of the availability of the levels of the skill learned. For example if you are training ASLK to level one and are podded you lose the entire use of the training slot as well as an additional two hours thus making the new training time for level one four hours.

When using the ASLK System you could only train in a single skill category at a time opposed to any skill with the regular training system. Each skill would then train based on its tree placement that when the first skill has been finished above the root skill category the system would then train the next skill in sequence.

Let's use Drones again for the primary skill set being trained using the ASKL System. You have trained the ASKL to level four so you have four slots available in which to drag and drop the skills you want to learn without a time dilation of regular method of training being applied - Drones would first have to be trained to Level 5 in order to drag and drop it into the ASLK. From there you could place any skill associated with Drones into the training queue boxes. If you attempt to inject a skill that has not met the pre-requisites a red X would appear in the box.

Using the ASLK System would also require visiting a specialized station located within randomly selected systems in each empire. Null space Alliances would have to equip their own facilities to necessitate the use the ASLK System.

Once the ASLK had been turned on by the station services regular skill training could not occur and the system would have to be turned off in order for regular skill training to take place.

The price of the switch at the station would be 100,000 per level of the ASLK learned.

this....

I look at as just another daily ritual. Check mail, peruse youtube, hit my there sites if not playing the game actively atm and my neocom iPhone app says I am running low log in and put skill in its 3 more minutes to the ritual. Its not like its a stretch really.

If going on vacation in the past here is what I did. See training run out after my flight leaves. Suspend training, slide in skill that will take me to after I arrive back home. Finish out that skill I suspended when the vacation filler runs out. At some point you get the sp either way. Eve is a journey, not a destination. Have that as your outlook, it goes much smoother.

Not sure where the I am paying customer bit falls into this. If actually paying you are a whopping $180 a year. I am lead support for enterprise apps whose vendors don't bow down to my or my my boss' will. Those annual maintenance fees are in the thousands of dollars. Granted they use nice tactful language. End message once you strip this away is still go pound sand, this is how it is. Unless.....you'd like to pay some extra money for our professional services. For a few thousand dollars more they then find it in their heart to hook you right up.

I respectfully disagree.

If EVE were a journey, I would be getting SP for every rat I killed, every rock I mined.

If I had Freighters at level 2, I should be able to get 20% use out of my Freighter instead of waiting until level 5-Advanced Spaceship Command to just fly it. (for example)

Eve is very much "destination" oriented. The only journey is the waiting for the skill queue to tick down.

And it's not going to tick down any faster whether it's 24, 48, or 72 hours long.

Personally I can't wait for them to introduce 'Queue for PLEX,' to help all the paying customers spend some more money. For just one additional PLEX per month per actively training character, you can queue up to three days' skills at a time.

Noone is stopping you, or asking that you cannot be able to log in and check this way while bumping your skills.
Forcing it on everyone else is another matter.

Do you object to people not checking?
I doubt others want to be railroaded into logging in for something if they are not interested.

Do you assume that everyone has both the time and desire to grab play opportunities?
I don't care how tempting something is, if I have no time I ain't gonna stay and play.

Yeah sorry I really don't have any sympathy for this. I too remember when there was no skill training. Alarm clocks going off at 3:13am just so I can stumble to my computer, turn it on, log on and set a new skills. That is what made EvE better than any game I've ever played because no other game had my commitment like EvE. And as others have said already, there are countless kills that I've gotten on just because I logged on "to just set a skill"

Oh, and having people not log in to the game itself is bad. People logging on make content. This is why nullsec is so damn boring. Only logging on so you can join a fleet that was pinged over jabber when there is a target flying in to your titan bridge range is bad for the game. Remember, when you're out in space yourself looking for something to shoot, you're also providing someone else a target....and yeah I went there nullbears...deal with it

-1, having a 1 day skill queue is more than enough. Just remember, you don't have to just set 24 hours. Load up your skill queue to have a group of skills finish in 23hr 59mins and then add a week long skill at the end.
