Hey, remember when MTV used to actually be good?

I do.

Right on the tail end of it. 80s-90s were a golden age I say.

This is the thread where people post good music videos and we can all mock each other's terrible taste.

Good one.

This one made a big impression on me back then: Love My Way Very different than the rock gods of my high school days (Zep, Nugent, Rush, Queen, Santana, ELP, Doobie Bros, Yes, Steely Dan, etc.)

But this horrible but iconic MTV one will regrettable be imprinted on my brain forever: I Ran

Woah that's some blasts from the past. Can remember the 80's with big hair, some whacked out styles of clothing and just about everything else and got to admit it was fun times. Now off to shame the kids by blaring out some Toto, Talking Heads, Simple Minds, Duran Duran, Pet Shop Boys etc etc.

When they were talking about the album after Vulgar and saying it's going to be heavier, then Vanessa Warwick goes, "How can it be heavier, my God!?!?", it made me giggle because that's exactly what Far Beyond Driven was.

It's also really weird to see Phil so clean back then. It was before he fell into heroin. His head is clear in this video.

We had an in-store with her at the record store I worked in back then. She was a real sweetheart. Just like a big sister or something.

It was a double promotion with David Lee Roth and the "Diamond Dave TV" stuff in conjunction with his solo album at the time.

ed: Can't find the real video for Heaven 17's "Let Me Go", but for me it defines "video music" in the early 80s.

MTV started out fine, but when they got to Kennedy and the "Yo! MTV Raps!" and Spring Break stuff, it was all over with.....

This...

I was a late bloomer to MTv. My parents were against the "paying for tv" thing so it took me a while to get caught up. However, in the late 80's, I worked in a adult contemporary radio station. After listening to the likes of "Crazy for You" by Madonna all day, it was a blessing to discover Headbangers Ball!

Oh yes. I never missed the Headbanger's Ball or 120 Minutes. The Ball was half-good, and half awful "kissy-lipped" Hair Metal bands.

Today in 1982, the Weather Channel first went on the air, and that's when hurricanes killed the thunderstorm star.

No.

Never.

Ever.

I do remember hearing this too and from for about 20 years though so I'm not sure when it was supposed to have been good.

The very sun of heaven seemed distorted when viewed through the polarising miasma welling out from this sea-soaked perversion, and twisted menace and suspense lurked leeringly in those crazily elusive angles of carven rock where a second glance shewed concavity after the first shewed convexity.

Music aside:

If it wasn't for MTV no one probably would have ever heard of Mike Judge.

Or The Maxx

And MTV helped put Yoshiaki Kawajiri on the map.

Another gem of the era was Night Flight on TBS: The Thing that lurked in the tub

There's a million angry citizens looking down their tubes..at me.

Or Peter Chung.

Edit: I think Liquid Television is probably one of my favorite TV memories. Æon dying at the end of each silent film was genius (and spoiled by later iterations of the series).

Indeed, still one of my very favorites.
CSB: I have a few original Æon Flux animation cels in my collection I obtained way back then when a bunch of stuff was being cleared out of a film storage facility.
