I believe so, but you may have to roam about a bit.

things you got against you:

- secure cans
- Hulks or any other high cargo hold ships
- I'd be interested to see the percentages of miners that aggress after you flip the can.

I'm not sure about the rules in the starter school systems but the first fellow I met in game tried to flip my bantams can on day 1.
I didn't take the bait and it led to a conversation and a donation to my nublet starter funds instead of an explosion.

I've seen others on the forums saying they still like to roam about high sec on a quick can flipping roam and others saying they get no bites.

Give it a whirl, good luck o/

it's doable ... just stay out of the starter systems (only place it's considered "griefing". http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Rookie_Systems).

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

It happens but is hard to pull off. As stated their are like 12 or so systems that you can not grief in (can flip, suicide gank, scam, ect) These are starter systems and are made safe for new players that are learining how to fly a ship before you blow them up.
Make sure you don't do these things there.

Your issue is that most won't jetcan mine because of can flippin. They will either use secure cans, just dock and sell once they have a full bay, or be in a fleet that has haulers on site to immeditly store jet caned cargo in their bays.

Also since you are trying for PvP on minning ships which 1. don't have guns to engage you, and 2 will expect that you are trying to bait them into PvP as no one can flips for profit, it simply isn't profitable do to difficulty in finding someone just leaving ore around, it is very unlikely you will be engaged or your bait will be taken except for by the newest of the new.

It may not be profitable, but having someone private convo you just to tell you how much of an ******* you are is pretty funny. I should also add that the quality of PvP you'll get from miners, when you do get it, is terrible; it's far better to simply gank them. If you want some real PvP, hit up low sec.

I personally have had very bad luck with can-flipping, but I've also had corpmates with tons of kills (and losses) from that sort of bullshit. Like anything in this game, be persistent and figure out your target's habits. Smacking in local and acting like a dumbass can help. Whatever you do, don't shoot their **** until your agro timer runs out; that's the PvP window.

Leaves only the fresh scent of pine.

If you want something more interesting than attacking miners who often can't - and therefore won't - fight back - get some Combat Scanner Probes - find an area that has Level IV mission runners in it - and scan them down. Go in there and loot their wrecks. If they don't fight back you get some good loot.

Now the easy way, without using scanner probes - is to simply warp around the belts looking for wrecks - the same way you would look for miners jet cans. There are always plenty of wrecks laying about. You can loot those - and whoever they belong to can then come shoot at you - just as if you had flipped their can. If you come across someone ratting in the belts - they may take exception to your stealing their loot and the fight will be on.

To find out where to go - look at your map - set the filters to Pilots in Space - and the big orange blobs are where you want to go for a Target Rich Environment.

Now - if you want some better PVP than just picking on people who can't fight back - then Join Red Vs. Blue or Factional Warfare. Lots of PVP there.

And - as suggested - cruise around Lo Sec - there are other people down there specifically looking for PVP.
