EVE General Discussion

Hello GD,

I haven't seen a thread discussing people's thoughts on EVE Fanfest 2014 yet so I figured I'd start one. What are your opinions about the different announcements and what are your thoughts on the presentations/keynotes? What were you expecting or hoping to see/hear at Fanfest this year? I imagine those at Fanfest are too busy playing Valkyrie and getting drunk to post while it's going on and we'll have to wait till they come back, but those of you watching the stream should reply.

We've seen several Keynotes, the announcement of Legion and Katie Sackhoff in Valkyrie, while listening to some other ramblings of devs between everything. More to come tomorrow but let's start the discussion.

This year I was hoping to hear some improvements/additions to Factional Warfare, being an old FW junkie, and hear more about the coming industry changes and the future they see for PVE. Lastly, I was also hoping to hear about DUST announcements that may finally allow me to buy/sell to the mud grunts. Other than that, I expected to see flashy stuff and some high promises, but a few solid announcements.

Despite a few keynotes seeming short/lacking content or just ill-prepared, the EVE Keynote had a few good announcements like the Prospect mining frigate with cloaking and black ops bridging ability, and definitely the Mordus Legion line of ships with missiles and extended warp disruption range. Some things were underwhelming but I'd say that my expectations were met.

I am a bit concerned about the DUST/Legion topic, as it seems like they shafted one group of paying customers to try to rehash something they're all but declaring as a failed game launch. I'm happy it'll be on PC but I feel a little uneasy about the circumstances. Valkyrie looks like it could be really great but I'm curious how it'd ever interact with the EVE universe, and not just be placed in the lore. Time will tell.

I missed a few of the presentations so hopefully people can fill me in on interesting things I missed. Feel free to respond with your thoughts.

My thoughts, and opinions and expectations? I think (and this is my opinion) there's more glad-handing, back-slapping self-congratulatory drinking going on in Iceland, which isn't unusual for them. Go Jaeger-Think! Bound to get...somewhere.
