Elite on a friends BBC Micro here...

Vic 20, Atari console (Remember Joust etc?) , 48k then ZX Spectrum, friends Amstrad, friends C64, Atari ST, Commodore Amiga (Elite 2 - Frontier!) , Pentium 386 to PC. Add in a game cube and thats it. Happy memories.... I'm such a geek.

First game I ever really played was Elite on the good old squishy Spectrum 48k. The lenslok protection was a real eye squinter but worth getting past to see the sights of Lave, Estionbi and Orgetibe.
Wish I still had the computer, game AND a tape with my old saves on it. That would really be a trippy blast continuing a save from when I was much much younger. Oh well.

Memorieeeeeees *sniffle.

I've still got the tape with my saves on it.

Looking forward to Elite Dangerous!

Dumbing down of Eve Online will result in it's destruction...

Holy smokes. Elite. Still have the box set in the loft. I was a BBC Model B micro fanboi back in the day and spent many isolated hours on that game.

My first machine was a Video Genie E3003 which was a TRS-80 clone. You want to hear sad? This is sad. The Video Genie had no sound card; I used to write HEX bytes into the machine's memory and pick up the change in emitted radio frequencies on a nearby radio. Got the thing to play Happy Birthday to my mum.

Also wrote a space sim called Mega Hunter on that machine. Full game in 16K. Ahh the pleasures of spending hours trying to find an extra few bytes here and there.

Also, the first wordprocessor I ever bought was for the BBC Micro. To install it I had to pop the case and plug in the Word processor chip.

Software engineers were men back then. Also no friends.

Man I remember when I found out how to actually set up a trade route, all setting up a cycle between not just two but 4 or 5 or 6 systems to optimise the credits/m^3.

I felt so proud of myself Cool

(Hey I was only about 12)

Ooooh you lucky person.

Also, anyone remember the novella 'The Dark Wheel' by Robort Holdstock ( who is no longer with us sadly ). Read that and tell me it doesn't inspire you to 'undock'

Lunar Lander on a DEC GT40 then onto Star Trader for me as I had a copy of 'What to do after you hit return'.

My sequence for personal computers at home was Nat Semi SC/MP then SC/MP II, Motorola 6800D2 Kit, PDP-11/10 (PTS and CAPS11), PDP-11/34M (RSX-11M), Microbee PC85 (ROM), VAX-11/750 (VMS), PC Clone (8086), 80386SX Clone, VAXen (when one is not enough), series of boring PCs.

Ex-BBC micro user here. Spent hours trying to play Elite, gave up and played Chuckie Egg instead.

Started on the ZX81, couldn't afford the Spectrum 48k and finally ended up with an MSX! Me mum had great visions of me learning BASIC programming, all I wanted to do was play Hunchback.

Elite > Wing Commander > Freespace2 > X:BTF > Freelancer > EVE

Plus mix in the various sequels in between the timeline relative to their release.

Elite... I was more into F-15 Strike Eagle and Silent Service. Which maybe goes to show why I like AF's and cloky ships in EVE. Pirate

I'm in it for the money

Atari 2600

ZX81

Dragon 32

ZXSpectrum

Commodore 64

Amstrad CPC464 - horrid green screen

Amiga 500 and 1200

PC!!! woot.

Halcyon days of gaming. Manic Miner, Horace goes Skiing, River Raid, Jack the Nipper, Captain Blood, Elite, Barry Mcguigans Boxing and hundreds of others.

The cassette games were epic as you could copy them from your mates and vice versa!
