I've seen them, my corpmates have seen them, and I'm sure others have as well, but I can't help but notice these guys going around with 41 accounts with some sort of macro program to control all of them at once. They hit up all the ice belts, and suck it dry before anyone else could get a fair share. This type of playing is unfair, and at the very least anyone with this many accounts should be required to be in a corporation, so everyone that wants to pod that guy a few times over for hogging all the ice can wardec him over and over again legally. That, or I guess the bulk of EVE's population are these guys with 41 accounts going at the same time and regulating them means EVE goes bye-bye. either way, it's a little unfair.

At the very least make it so that a given player cannot have more than 5 accounts in a given system at the same time.

Hi Sibius!

It's called multiboxing. People control all their ships at once,
through a program that relays the input to the other client.

As it isn't doing anything on it's own,
and only works as long as somebody gives commands,,
it's considered to be legal within the EULA.

CCP gave you the wardec, and failing that the catalyst to solve this issue.

I hate to say it, but you are essentially getting out hi-sec'ed. Ironic that it isn't catalysts which are irritating you, but a more successful miner. If you don't like living there....move?

Its very much like a corrupt real world model.

CCP (Government) gives corporations the ability to create vast wealth (by allowing Isboxer), Corporations (multiboxers) use these tools to amass wealth which is then used to lobby CCP (government) by buying more plex to allow more wealth (simplify game mechanics / increase safety).

It definitely is not a fair model and is all based around greed.

Your solution is obvious.

It's almost an hour and he didn't reply yet.

So now he'll reply, because of this post.

Which will make him look even more suspicious,
so he might rather not.

Otoh he might just call this post out for being ridiculous,
because I suspect a troll. Which will make it even more obvious.

Plenty of empty low-sec ice belts. But you don't want that because you cannot go AFK while sitting there.

Your solution is impossible, people would start using a proxy (e.g Tor) to channel specific clients through other IP addresses, and since the IP is the only connecting element... (unless they collect hardware ID's too, and even then they might have multiple PC's).

er no its not pixel money, its plex which is directly translated to real world hard currency like subscriptions, RMT ... oh and hoodies ;)

If I splash gasoline over myself (as an in-game metaphor) I'll make sure I'm holding tight onto to those who deserve the cleansing flame ;)

Yeah but it's not like you get RL money out of Eve, you just don't have to put them in. I doubt that guy running 100 barges fleet has new swimming pool because of it, he just have hobby that fuels itself.

Actually...under a strict reading of the EULA, a multiboxing program is 'third-party' software that '[facilitates] acquisition of items, currency, objects, character attributes, rank or status at an accelerated rate when compared with ordinary Game play. '

Of course, that interpretation depends on whether mining via 40 separate accounts at one time is considered an 'accelerated rate'.

Clarification from CCP (even if it's already been given) might make things a bit less foggy. :)

Since there is no limit on number of accounts you can have why would multiboxing them all be against rules? As long as you don't engage in illegitimate activities why should anyone care? There are in-game means to make your life miserable but I guess they require more effort than forum whine thread.

Basically, it comes down to this: one form of automations (botting) is considered against the EULA while another form of automation (isboxer) is not.

Both take limited inputs (i.e. fewer inputs then it would normally take to run say 40 clients) and apply them to a larger set of clients. Botting does this through a "run" command that executes a predefined program while the user is away whereas isboxer effectively runs a number of smaller programs (macros) while the user is (nominally) at the keyboard.

Either way automates gameplay, but CCP says one is bad and the other isn't, so those are the rules we play by. If you don't like it.....well....catalysts are a cheap solution to your problem.

I think they're talking about the use of ISBoxer and similar software, not multiboxing itself.
