Npc aggro

Hey guys,

So i got a question for the smart ones in here, does anyone know how exactly and for what reasons do the npc's change aggro ?

Cause i just had a thing ( that i cannot say in detail ) where the npc's started shooting me and only me constantly instead of the boat with the much higher dps on the grid.

Like srsly.. does it have somethin to do with ewar or somethin... Or is it just plain and simple randomness??

Just because i am blond does not make me stoopid !

Good question.

Maybe they perceived you as a bigger threat or maybe just an easier target. Then again were you the Fleet boss or running Logistics?

I think NPC's have a specific guideline for which targets have priority when multiple ships are on grid.

NPCs tend to hate EWAR.
They also tend to switch to newly arrived ships.
And sometimes they just switch randomly, even to total non-threats.

Many innocent salvage drones have died to deliver you this message.

The mechanic is based on some type of attribute. CCP has never said what attribute. I suspect it has something to do with sig radius and distance.

I have not personally experienced ewar causing targets to switch. A buddy and I do 4s as a team sometimes. Hes normally target painting all the time in a golem. Sometimes being right next to my vargur, but the targets stay on me, so if ewar does contribute I can't imagine its a very high priority or at the very least it might depend on the type of ewar.

Ship size is confirmed by devs to play a role. Cruisers will try to attack cruisers etc.

Distance appears to play a role as well

What sized ships where involved?

No it didnt :p

Meh... Could have had the rattlesnake but my vexors dual rep tank couldnt handle the npc's volleys aswell...

So yea, since i've said the above might aswell elaborate.

I was trying to awox a battleship in my vexor , and from the moment i warp scrambled my target..i instantly got whole pocket aggro..and stayed like that till i died, eventually...

So srsly.. i don't think thats normal.. might be just me but still.. npc's should change targets more :p

They do. They saw you were easy to explode. You exploded.

The real question you should be asking is why would you take a T1 cruiser into a level 4 mission... You would have been okay with a Myrmidon.

I wasnt bad , just slight calculation mistake , there's a difference :) , anyway it happens , not every awox goes as plan

Lower sig and speed tanking , but i guess i wasnt viable enough , still .. good experience .

Yea I can see where you're coming from but just from my experience of letting noobs into level 4 missions with a cruiser. It never ends well LOL. Besides that the RS has a tough tank.

Whatever it is the system is somewhat broken.

My mission alt fleeted up a few months back in his T1 domi with a couple of newer players in turret ships to do WC.

The rats focused entirely on the other two players ignoring my alt and his sentries. Eventually the rest of the fleet had to warp out. Which was no great problem as my alt generally solo's WC in that ship.

However this is the weird bid. Even after the rest of the fleet warped out and I was the only one left in the room the NPCs still ignored me. I was able to pop the remaining 10 mill bounty or so worth of Battleships without getting a single lock or taking a single HP in damage.

I have to admit that is weird. Normally when other fleet members warp out the aggro will change to you. Maybe it's possible one of your drones took aggro but due to the range it didn't take damage?

I don't see anything wrong with NPC aggro changing from pilot to pilot. You shouldn't be able to warp into a mission with one tanked ship and hold aggro for everyone. I dislike the drone aggro changes only because it made mobile drones useless beyond about 15km

Not entirely weird. Depends on the factors. How far away was the Domi? Were the sentries being shot at? If the sentries had the aggro and were to far away, they would not have been taking damage. Could be the sentries were killing rats before they got into range to apply damage to the sentries.
