The age of Space games has its Renaissance now and many New very interesting games are released, announced or soon to be released. As some Developers has said, now the techonology can make Our visions and dreams come thru.

How will this affect the future of EVE and how will EVE improve the game to counter the flight of EVE players to the New games?

People are always going to come and go. EvE has a fairly good foothold and will always be the unique game that it is.

Anyone that limits themselves to only experiencing one game is missing out on a lot fun stuff out there. People should go try out other games because taking a break is healthy. When they're ready to sack up and put their big boy pants back on, EvE will still be here.

They say most of your brain shuts down on the EvE forums. All but the impatient side, and the sarcastic side. No wonder I'm still awake.

I'm with Tippia here, but I won't deny that there's.... something in SC, altho it's too far away to see if it's good or not. Plus whole thing smells a bit wrong too.

Unfortunately, that "something" is pretty much being trampled by 2 shills in OOPE that won't. Shut. Up.

Oh sure, Freelancer II and Elite IV both scratch their respective itches, but neither of those itches are EVE-like gameplay. All they have in common is a setting and one or two aesthetic elements.

…and by the look of it so far, the few bits they do have in common with EVE are, as you point out, getting completely spoiled by the games' respective cheerleaders. Straight

Say what he will about eve needing work, it's still stunning to take in when you take the time to ctrl f9

You should read the paper (because it's actually quite good) — it's not aesthetics in the sense of “looks” but more in the sense of “invoked emotional response”.

Anyway, the point is that SC and E:D compare to EVE in much the same way as StarCraft II or Dead Space or Kerbal Space Program do. I.e. not very much, in spite of the shared space setting.

I am going to give Elite IV a chance because of my attachment to the original franchise but...

I recently tried to play Frontier and First Enc again recently and yes I KNOW its not right to compare a 20 year old game to EvE, but when I compare them to original Elite, Im left feeling that the original was more akin to EvE than the two sequels were, and that has always made me nervous regarding the "Braben Only" version which in David's own words

Frontier Elite - seamlessly land and take off from planets and travel a living galaxy 1000 times bigger than EvE's, in gorgeous early '90s 3D graphics.
EvE - atmospheric flight ? Walking in stations ? That like takes 30 million dollars and 6 years of development, man !

Yep if Elite Dangerous is any good and EvE sticks to it's no new real expansions policy it's not looking good.

IMHO you're wrong, I'll be be giving both SC and Elite Dangerous a spin, but not for the same reasons I play Eve, I doubt that I'm alone in that either.

Expansion wise, hopefully there'll be another expansion of an Apocrypha like nature at the end of the 5 year plan. What they're currently doing is laying down the framework to build it on, part of that is fixing everything that is currently broken.

Jesus features can wait, let them fix the core game before they get to break stuff again P

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Was a huge fan of Freelancer and I'm a huge fan of EVE. I doubt SC coming out is going to make me stop playing EVE.

I grew up With Elite 1 and 2....

There are Things in EVE i miss, but was in Elite2. There are many Things in EVE that was missed in Elite2. There will be Things in Elite4 that EVE dont have and vice versa. There is Things in X-series that is missed, for my part, in EVE and some Things in EVE that would be great in X-series (its a shame X-rebirth didnt live up to the expectations) For me, i gotta give Elite4 a big spin just for the nostalgy.

But at some point, if EVE dont get their speed up, some other developer will get it right and nail it. So if EVE wants to keep their Reign over the Space sandbox era, they need to counter the New arrivals.

So when will we be able to walk in stations here?? XD

You can not even play Kilrathi in Star Citizen, so that game is pretty much stillborn.

It may light a fire under CCP and EVE may experience some dramatic improvements.

The Star Citizen fighter demo looked frustrating. The ships seemed to be hard for the devs to control. And they had to go through animations of your pilot walking up the stairs to the cockpit, sitting down, twirling a helmet around, waiting for the bay door to slide open.... every time they respawned and wanted to rejoin the fight. Not to mention the glitches and that most of the demo was eaten up by technical difficulties. Haven't been blown away by SC yet.

I know Eve is dying and CCP is ruining everything so I am making an Eve-like game that runs on DirectX 8, has fulfilling PvE, small gang PvP, walking in stations, super duper balance, rules requiring players to scam, walking in spaceships, one-shard sandbox, walking in space, no goons, battles with up to 380,000 people involved, cutting edge graphics, super awesome AAA-title plot and writing, safe hisec, walking on spaceships, first person spaceships, first person shooter, planetary battlefield 5, subscription paid only using in-game currency, and Draeks.

However because I'm making it alone I need some help, so I'm taking donations. Every million dollars unlocks another one of these features. If we unlock all these features and keep going (I know we will ;D), I will promise to add new ships one by one for every million dollars extra.

Well, at least neither of these games we are discussing are as bad as Age of Ascent. I found it very cute that they claimed they would have the biggest pvp battle ever, and to this date, they have not released their figure. From what I gathered by asking around, it capped at 1.1k players at once, and most of it was boring and KSODs.

Also, eve is not dying guys, come on.

This is as nice as I get. Best quote ever https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=4137165#post4137165
