It was a fun day until I actually got into Mayflower, AR. Lot of lives devastated, thoughts go to the victims of this storm.

been receiving lots of reports about hard-hitting twisters this side of the Atlantic. forgive my ignorance about this, but doesn't the twister season starts a bit later?

Tornadoes can happen at anytime of the year, but typically February to April are the peak months. This season has been really mild until this week.

It still surprises me that growing up in SW Arkansas and later Texas, and now 2 years in Florida, I have never, ever seen or heard a tornado. Nowhere near.

A horrifying hurricane, yes, but no tornado experience here, weirdly.

I grew up and still living in SW Arkansas and until I started chasing I had only seen 1 tornado, and that was in 1997.

Is this literally Bill Paxton's job from Twister? How close do you end up getting to one of these things (outside of what your dash cams show)?

There's a song called Hurricane by Theory of a Deadman that you should listen to..

Hope that link works. I haven't been able to connect to YouTube through my VPN this week (YT is banned in China).

Joffy Aulx-Gao for CSM. Fix links and OGB. Ban stabs from plexes. Fulfill karmic justice.

No, that is what a TIV is for. (Tornado intercept vehicle) they are weighed down and armor reinforced and even at that they try to only intercept EF2 rated storms. I'm a fast mover kinda like a scout in EVE I chase storm to storm and get eyes on strong storm cells and get a feel for how they producing. I look for characteristics like wall clouds, anvils, and measure air pressure and etc. I relay this information to skywarn first and then my team. Then they will decide if its worth positioning the TIV for this storm. I try to get within 3-5 miles of a tornado or the area where a tornado could be depending on radar and wind velocity readings within the storm. I get close enough though. Close as I want to be lol.

Yeah, we're screwed around here. Sad I'm just hoping the nuisance pests like aphids and mosquitoes bloom their little annoying butts out this summer.
