For what purpose?

For gaining security, yes of course, though slower than using tags, it is free.

For finding fights, sometimes, though rarer than plexes or gates.

For making isk, better than nothing, worse than most things.

When I rat I am doing it to gain sec status while roaming systems for fights, the bounties and loot are a bonus but not enough to make it worth doing over more dedicated activities like missions, plexes, exploration etc. Ratting is an in-between activity from my perspective. There are others, but it's hard to answer your question without you specifying - for what purpose?

Rat for 2-3 hours, then run FW missions for 2-3 hours; then tell me which one got you more isk.

Join wormhole corporations that do C5-C6 capital escalations with sleeper sites. You will make far more for far less effort than you could in k-space.

That said, most of these corporations have focuses in PvP so if you have no intentions of fighting other people you best leave your profligate ass
