Most people don't use the captains quarters if you wish to turn it off the option is in the esc menu.

Always willing to help all you have to do is ask, though if you're in the other fleet I may not help the way you want. Just a heads up. Pub Channel: Lost Souls Trading Post

Have you checked whether you have the latest drivers for your video card?

You do have a really old video card, but I just checked and the latest driver version available on the nVidia website is 335.28. I'd check to see if you have this version... and if you have any version prior to that, download and install the latest version.

http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/74421/en-us

- Do you have issue's like this with any other games? Or just Captain's Quarter's in Eve?
- Open the launcher, click the gears / settings button. Do you have a DirectX tab? If so, go to it and ensure it's set to DirectX 9 and not DirectX 11.

-- Note: Your card does not support DirectX 11, so possibly doesn't even give you the option. If it does, and it's set to DX11... it might possibly be causing issue's - I'll admit I don't know if it would cause issue's, but something to check IMO.

HI and thanks. No no issues with other games. And XP does not support DX11 at all. So that may not work at all either. but thanks again. I can live with it, just have to walk back to the main room and it is ok, as that always works fine, it is just on the ramp i have this issue thanks again for the nice post.

Very kind of you, Xanissa.

Make sure you are running the DX9 client.

The settings on the launcher (the gear icon at the top right) has a checkbox for that, if memory serves.

Yes just checked it a w while ago, it is set for DX9. no other option available for my system, XP.

I will try to update my video driver to see if that helps.

The GeForce 9600 is getting to the point where it's a bit dated. If you continue having problems, consider filing a bug report, since CCP will want to know about older hardware that is struggling with rendering Eve.

Indeed. Inconsistencies and rendering issues are to be expected with older hardware and operating systems.

Probably mentioned before - change the graphics settings in the Esc menu to low.

Try that for a while and then slowly increase the rendering options until you find the best setting for your system.

Yes i cannot afford a newer card and actually they wont work on my older system, i have to use what I have as i research and study older games as well as new ones... i fixed this problem by turning off Next Gen, that took care of the flashing sprites.

thanks for the replies. I will file a bug report for the tech side.

First of all, and I was a sinner myself until last month (on some machines).

Get rid of XP.

A 2.6 GHz dual core Athlon will run better under win7 (and possibly even better under win8 once you get rid of the kindergarten UI).

And sticking to XP post bugfixes from MS turns you into an Internet version of Typhoid Mary.

Buy, steal, pirate, beg, swindle your way to a copy, or switch to one of many free and still updated alternatives.

Second, there's still useful video/GPU cards available that support AGP.

And the 2:nd hand market is really active right now (since so many had to upgrade their systems when XP was finally declared dead).

CCP Greyscale: As to starbases, we agree it's pretty terrible, but we don't want to delay the entire release just for this one factor.

thank you but i have very good protection from any and all viruses using a very good full scale scan and protect program, and I clean my system regularly. I will NEVER EVER Leave Xp thank you very much. It works just fine, does all that I need to and will for the rest of my life. I have all the programs i need to do the creative and research work i do, and it runs games from early development DOS to the highest level of what I want to study, Modern games do not appeal to me with their superrealism that demands a gigantic computer to run for no real purpose, and I have no interest in hyperactive overlcloned shooters and the other online so called "social media" gossip chianing of various devices. so thanks but no thanks.

and i did get the sprites to go away as I said, just turned off post processing, EVE is just fine without it.

My eye sight does not notice such things anyway. thanks again for sharing.

Security companies (Symantec, McAfee, etc) will stop supporting XP sooner rather than later (tbh, probably soon as the "2015" subscription comes up).

You're much less secure than you think.

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

Not very related to the topic, I suppose, but an extra warning from someone in the tech field: XP is unsafe regardless of antivirus/antimalware protection. Any future bugs that compromise the security of any Windows components are not going to be patched. This has already happened, and doubtless other bugs will be unveiled as time passes. In case you're not familiar with the term "remote code execution vulnerability", that means that a hacker can run any code (program) he wants on your computer, as if he were you, without your consent. An antivirus/antimalware solution wouldn't interfere; why would they? To them it looks like it's you emailing your credit card number, passwords, or confidential files, and installing a keylogger or botnet.

You are of course free to stick to XP if you wish, but all we are doing is trying to warn you that now Microsoft has cut its support, it is a malware timebomb. Both for your sake and for that of anyone who interacts with your computer, please upgrade.
