A few moments ago I brought a stack of items to Jita and tried to sell them to the highest buy order by right-clicking on the stack and using the "sell this item" option. The buy order was for rather fewer items than were in the stack, so my expectation was that I'd fill the order and the excess items would be returned to my hangar. What happened instead was that the buy order filled and the remaining items were put on the market as a new sell order, at the price of the filled buy order. This was undesired for several reasons, and is not the way that option worked pre-Crucible. So... did I misclick something or has there been a change in the market mechanics?

edit: turns out that I did indeed misclick something. Go me!

That's because you used an advanced sell order with the duration set to something other than instant.

This also means you paid fees to set up the entire order as well as the tax on the items you insta-sold.

tl/dr next time use simple mode. It's safer.

I did use simple mode - right clicked "sell this item", checked that the price matched the buy order I wanted to fill, hit enter. Didn't change anything else whatsoever.

edit: is there some other way of filling buy orders that I'm unaware of? As I said in the OP, I used right click - sell this item regularly pre-Crucible and it always just filled the top buy order and dumped the remaining units back in my hangar.

right click -> sell is not the same as using simple mode.

Simple mode is the small box that just allows you to change the quantity. It also has a button near the bottom right that says "advanced".

The advanced mode is the larger box that allows you to change the price, quantity and duration. It also has a button near the bottom right that says "simple".

The dialog that opens is the same one as you last used.

tl/dr you really did use advanced mode.

Hmmm, so it is.

Don't mind me, I can be pretty dumb.

Also it might be useful to know for you that in advanced you can select a checkbox "remember settings" (or something to that effect, can't check right now). Ticking this when selling something with duration "instant" will make sure you will default to the behaviour you desired in the OP from then on unless you change the duration manually.
