However, I cannot fathom anyone not taking something for free in EvE if it is offered

Female players sometimes have issues with this. Eve was my first MMO so I started oblivious, but early on a corpie did a lengthy and enlightening rant in comms about girl gamers expecting free stuff and getting it. In all fairness he'd just come out of a WoW guild with a female guild leader who was banging half the guild behind her husbands back and causing all sorts of drama. He didn't seem to see it, but the flipside for the player is the risk of harassment from nutjobs if you do accept stuff.

Anyone who has ever had a drink bought for them in a bar by a random stranger will know there is often an expectation to then stand there feigning interest in their feeble chat up line before escaping. Which is why some just decline all offers to save hassle. Same thing with that scenario; some people would never turn down a free drink and can't get their heads around it v0v.

I guess I have been fortunate to be in Guilds and Corps where sexist nonsense such as a rant like that is not tolerated and is a permaban offense.

Ive never found a roofie in a Rifter though lol

In the past ive helped corp members purchase ships.

I gave a guy 500 mill cos he was in corp and running out of isk to pvp.

In total over the years ive donated to corp, paid half help fees for carriers. Purchased barges and given presents of 200 mill ships to corp members and friends.

I dont do it on a whim though and it makes me feel good helping others in EvE get to there goals and keep players in game.

DAAYMM CCP gimmie a pr job ffs Lol

So like after 76 petitions I still dont have a logical normal answer.   Fly safe and fly true and use your headset on the Loo

when I started, I even got hand-outs from pirates.

True they then turned round later and blew me out of the ship(s) they'd paid for, but fun was had by all.... mostly them but I did get some tips out of it.

We had a vet from 06 join our corp shortly after we started,
who after about a month went on a break (hasn't logged on in nearly a year)
however before he buggered off into the IRL he spent ages teaching us how to fit ships, critiquing our fits and telling us how to train for them properly.
absolutely invaluable service and id strongly recommend others do the same.
(now with my luck hell log on tomorrow now that we actually have stuff and gut the corpLol)

We have a kind of beta vet as well who brought loads of stuff with him that we more or less had to take to be of any use to him.
iv had absolutely no financial aid though and i don't think any of my corpmates have either.

now that said iv earned a bit through the odd well timed clever remark and/or showing the right attitude when i was a newb and ill readily fork out for others that do the same.

Edit:i still think of myself as a newb, i meant brand newb

I made over 3 billion isks in my first 10 days of eve.

3 of them while on trial, then plexed account.

Yes someone helped me, by letting me salvage all his level 4 missions non stop for days.

Presumably the person doing the level 4 missions did so in a Velator armed with mining lasers just to stop you being greedy and earning 10 billion in your first 10 days.

Oh, and put in a change of name request to CCP, from Cpt Swagg to Prt Bragg.

They are decent folk and will probably do it for you free of charge.

I received 2 million following my first pvp loss.

My reaction was, this community is so friendly and helpful.

I still think that now too.

My corp gave me a boost when I had first joined. I tagged along to salvage some L4s in my destroyer and one of them paid me 40mil to haul something 5 jumps.

That's what I did when I started (and still do now). I accept advice but not financial help.

I still suck at this game. Bad. Very very very bad.

Nope.

My first characters were amongst the first "generation" of pilots in the game, and charity was usually voiced in the familiar phrase of: "Get out and mine."

Which was substantially different in those days, nowhere near a lucrative with the effects of boosting and fleet bonuses, much less the vast assortment of crystals, mods and implants we have today.

Kids have it easy these days.

God, reading all of your replies reminds me what an IDIOT I am.

Although I've declined all financial help, gifts etc., I've gotten tons and tons and TONS of advice from seasoned vets since I started. Do you know many months it took me to get 100 mil in my wallet?

It's a trick question. In the four months I've played, I've never made it there.

Granted, I had more than that in assets I never got around to selling (200m or so in assets in the first week? 300m or so by the second week) but I was never, ever, ever able to make it to even 100 mil. I lose a ship on a daily basis and have 100+ losses to less than 30 kills.

Is that abnormally bad?

Wait. Don't answer that. I know the answer.

I don't even know why I'm posting here. I guess it feels good to get it off my chest.

Hey everyone, if you think you're doing bad, here's a self-esteem boost for ya. You're welcome.

I do, I really try.

I'm a selfish bastard in EVE to everyone but friends.

I'm just not good. But thank you.

P.S. This is NOT a plea for ISK, though. My phlosophies haven't changed; anyone who sends ISK for no reason gets it sent back.

Why thank you.

But yeah, it's not my tactics in EVE so much as it is I'm bad at everything I've done in this game. I wish that was hyperbole.

Oh I wouldn't say you're an idiot, autonomy is an important thing in eve and if by decline material aid you feel you have helped develop that then You made the right decision.

The really important thing is that you recognized that the advice is the most valuable thing and took it on board.

Good attitude man keep it up.
