Lost a tengu due to crash and simultaneous patch?

This is the first time I've ever had an issue with Eve Online.

I just bought a tengu today, got it fully fitted, and have been running missions all day together with my main account's character.

I was doing excellent (using a Kronos and this char's Tengu), when suddenly this character's connection timed out and Eve Online crashed. I re-opened the launcher as quickly as I could to try to log back in and save my ship, but right when I clicked Log In it began patching the game.

I just lost a 1.8 billion isk ship, and two week's worth of skillpoints....what are my chances of getting help from CCP by submitting a ticket?

Reimbursement petitions are hit and miss, but be polite and describe what happened and just *maybe* the logs might show something.

There's a million angry citizens looking down their tubes..at me.

Did the Kronos character stay logged in, or did it crash too?

2 weeks of skillpoints? Shouldn't be more than 4 days.

Who put the goat in there?

Yeah I have lost a mission Domi and a Tiffie over the last few months to disconnects.

They ONLY seem to reimburse if the disconnect/problem can be proven to be their server.

If the disconnect was due to a fault in your net connection and you were unfortunate enough to be warp disrupted by the rats and your ship could not warp away they will not reimburse. This is fair enough because otherwise every time someone got scrammed they could pull the plug on their net connection and let the ship die and then petition for a new one.

Sooo ... put in a petition and if the logs show it was due to a problem at the server end you have a good chance to get a new ship and SP back. If there is no evidence the disconnect was server related they will probably knock it back, in which case its just one of those "EVE is hard" things.

Oh lol

For some reason I thought it was two weeks, didn't think to double check.

EDIT: My main character (the Kronos), stayed connected to the server.

Be sure to mention that in the support ticket then. If your connection is the problem, you wouldn't expect just one of them to go.

so for some reason it downloaded a patch after D/C? Even though you had a nother char already running fine?

The message on those is always "The Socket is Closed".

That is exactly what I got! It popped up three times, I hit OK in each box and then the game closed.

EDIT: Also, yes, there were two patches today, one when I logged on around noon earlier today, and then apparently another one either before or right when I d/c'd

For years I've never been dc'd more than once in a week (it's very rare) and I've been running multiple instances of EVE concurrently, all on the same computer. Today, after the patch, I've been dc'd at least four times, but only on one connection and, luckily, always shortly after docking. Very strange.

Anyway, just thought I'd mention it. Hopefully there's a quick fix.

If its any consolation I lost carrier/dread/loki under similar circumstances, but like CCP I can't know for sure where the problem was..
I was connected to other services and those connections stayed up while all my eve clients disconnected at the exact same time
