Dedicated PC for single client EvE on max graphics

So far I have been playing Eve on a Mac mini with i7 / 4gig ram / integrated hd4000 which runs well with textures and LOD set to high and everything else low/disabled. I get smooth 60 fps in quiet areas and haven't ventured to more populated space yet so not sure how it would fare. Shadows, AA, post processing and shader are all a definite no currently and make the mac sad (roasting hot and slideshow fps).

I want to build a dedicated Eve PC for only Eve and only a single client that can happily run on max everything in quieter zones/ solo mining, PvE, exploration and small number PvP. Happy to reduce graphics if I venture into large groups/ fleets but when soloing I would like max graphics with 1920x1080p. Hoping that Eve's less taxing graphical demands for a single client will allow me to do this on a budget but want to confirm some known-as-working specs before paying for a budget PC that will be useless if it does not play nice with Eve.

Would the combination of an i5, 4gb ram (the 4 gig in the mac is never maxed out currently) and a gtx650 cover me for a year or two with Eve? Could I go with lower specs than this?

Any help would be very much appreciated,

Thanks in advance,
Barry

wut? hehe. No really, anything current or close to current. EVE isn't very demanding. Even a computer a couple years old will render WiS at max (yes I know, "Heresy!!") but just saying even that pile of pixels will run smooth on anything current and even more so for the internet spaceship game.

I'm in it for the money

If EVE is the only game you play, you can get away with a fair bit but it also comes down to your budget.

Thanks for the comments, it will indeed be just for a single client of max graphics EVE only and no other games or applications.

The Mac Mini gets upto approaching 100 degrees C in some of the CPU cores currently even without shadows/AA/post processing and shading off and I use it for work so don't want to reduce the lifespan as it was a recent purchase. I am just about to upgrade the ram from 4 to 16GB but I am not sure how much impact that will have but maybe as Eve is emulated in OSX it may help out?

I was hoping due to Eve's 32 bit architecture I could go with fairly low amounts of ram (4/6 GB maybe) and an older cpu/gpu combo. As I mentioned I play in a mostly solo role so if I could run on max in solo gameplay and reduce graphics when in populated areas that would be perfect. Budget would be as little as possible ideally. I have monitor/mouse/all peripherals sorted so just the tower is needed.

If anyone is running an older PC and can achieve max settings outside of major fleets I would really appreciate it if you could let me know the specs of your machine. I just want to confirm working setups before purchasing anything because there are so many older cpu and gpu options, its a mine field and I don't want to end up buying an out of date machine that can't handle Eve on max as I would have no use for it otherwise.

Firstly, what you are doing to your CPU is harmful and while the chips are rated for up to 100 C, it is not for continuous usage and isn't covered by any warranty should it die on you. I strongly advise you to stop. Secondly, stop over thinking on what you may need, most (if not all) configurations will just work just fine but even for a old game as EVE, you want a decent amount of RAM, a decent CPU and a separate graphics card in a well ventilated case or you will have another scenario of where your hardware risk dying because of a heat death.

That is the real problem here, you clearly do not understand the limitations of the hardware inside because a Mac Mini is not a gaming machine, it is a office computer for people to write documents on or taxing film editing where you benefit from the i7 CPU. The Mac Mini is not something you push to 100 C repeatedly.

I certainly appreciate the attempt at advice but the condescending tone is unnecessary. The reason for this thread and the intention of taking Eve off the mini is because I fully understand the risk of running at close to limits of temperature specs over a prolonged period of time.

I simply asked in this thread for advice on specific configurations of PC components that players are using currently that could handle the playing style that I described at max graphics.

I work in audio engineering, primarily in Logic Pro (OSX only) so I am out of touch with particular component performances and compatibilities for PC builds and I am trying to research before purchase. I do realise that I need a decent set of components but I figured the best place to start research into what classifies as 'decent' for my particular specific-to-Eve build/purchase would be here.

I use OSX everyday for multi-tracking audio at high sampling rates and bit depths and various other audio related intensive tasks that it is ideal for, I am fully aware of what their strengths are.

I mentioned that the CPU temperature (which I was monitoring to evaluate if playing Eve on this particular Mac was an option) hit 100 degrees C, that is the reason for the thread. Surely if I 'clearly do not understand the limitations of hardware' I would be happily cruising around high sec now melting my CPU. I have reduced the graphics to a great enough extent to play with an acceptable core temperature untill I get a PC but.

Thanks again for the help, I know you offered advice thinking that I was happily frying my computer and I appreciate the concern but the real problem here is that I really just need some pointers on recommended components before over spending on a machine unnecessarily.

I5 is fine 4 gigs are fine I would recommend stronger gpu if possible and standard tower so cpu don't need to melt running mundane task such as eve online.

Whether I come off with a condescending tone or not is irrelevant to your issue here, I expect people who are somewhat sane regardless of how computer literate they are be able to work out what heat is and how heat is hardly associated with something good when it comes to electronics, especially in the tight and tiny enclosure of a Mac Mini.

Do yourself a favor, toss me an estimate of how much money you can spend on this and I'll put something together for you on PCpartpicker.com. After that we can discuss each individual component in this build.

Just built my new system using PCPartpicker, and I second the above recommendation if you are a neophyte builder like me. Also, Hazaro's Build Guide was pretty rad at suggesting components within certain price/performance ranges.

I don't have the full specs handy, but my current rig is an AMD FX 8 core processor, 16gb ddr3 ram, and a Radeon R9 card (270 I think) bought the parts and a new mobo on black Friday so cost around $400, and I can play 6 clients on max settings with no issues.

OMG Comet Mining idea!!! Comet Mining!

Thanks for the info everyone, in the end I decided to go for -

Amd FX-6300 six core
GTX660ti
16GB DDR3 1600mhz Ram

Hopefully that should run smooth and save the mac from exploding.

Thanks again, looking forward to seeing Eve in nice quality.
