Nope. Looking at a potential fix right now, that's in testing. Many people still have reasons for using XP such as licenses or hardware.

But Windows 7 is not like Vista, it's good :)

Will let you know how the 'fix' works out.

Good to see you have a fix in the works already. Hopefully this fixes the screen flicker I see sometimes, especially when I am probing. Thats how this whole ordeal started.

And for future reference, is this the place to report these issues and see if we can get a fix? I submitted a ticket and after going back and fourth with the GM, the best thing we came up with was deleting my cache. Don't get me wrong, the GM was very helpful and was willing to work with me with the various DXDiags and such, but it ended up without a fix.

Seems like posting here to get your attention is quicker?

Will be monitoring this closely.

This has actually been happening to me randomly for quite some time (over many patches) and has to do with (my best guess) memory stress - frequency increased if I ran more programs than my 2 eve clients. The short story is to drop your graphics settings quite low and it'll get much better.

I run 2 clients all the time. WinXP, 2GB ram and a 512MB video card. It happened most frequently prior to installing the video card (was using integrated video - i5 cpu w/intel chipset/video). After installing the video card, nvidia 9800, i was able to increase my graphics settings quite a bit, but still nowhere near ideal.

The performance of the new crucible client was so much better than before that I tried to beef up the graphics settings a little bit again, and the problem is now way worse than it ever was. I'm still trying to find that sweet spot and I just hope that it exists.

I posted in this thread earlier but just wanted to say it's now happening with only one client open - looks like something to do with the graphics card for mine. ATI Radeon HD 5670, XP operating system.

also when game windowses get garbled descriptions and drop menus of items are wrong, for example im docked right click on agent and i see things like "something wreck", "stargate" etc

its seems like problem with memory references or something like that.

Just to let you know this is happening on Windows 7 as well but less frequently. Both myself XP and a friend Windows 7 64 bit have had this problem both of us run single clients. Sometimes an Alt- Tab fixes it sometimes a relog is required. Both of us have NVidia cards though.

I don't mind too much though as this Expansion rocks!

Still will be nice once this is fixed.

This morning I have played two hours without any using of alt-tab - no problems appeared. It looks like that there is something wrong with UI windows restoration after switching in-and-out of EVE.

Same thing here when either running two clients or a single client when ALT-TABbing to desktop or other app.

I have PC and laptop and both exhibit the same issue.

PC is Athlon 4800+
4Gb Geil value memory
Audigy sound card
GeForce GTX 460 latest drivers
OS WinXP 32bit

Laptop is Lenovo T61
GeForce Go (latest Lenovo drivers)
OS Win XP 32bit

I had done a full reinstall on both machines.

QA and teams will review the player submitted bug reports and read the forums to monitor feedback. It's usually quicker than a petition with the GM's, and by using the forums or a bug report first you will help the GM load :)

I have just done a little investigation and it would 'appear' that this issue occurs when 'ALT-TAB' but not when Eve is maximised from the Win XP taskbar by using the mouse.

I am continuing to test this theory.

No that really doesn't work - Alt-Tab or mouse click's all the same. You can probably reduce the frequency/chance of it happening by simply not doing any alt-tabbing or not opening any of the ingame windows - which both are very diffficult to do.

Clearing cache is also a waste of time (and diskspace - since the old cache folder's just renamed to a backup).

The only other thing I noticed is when you run it during the quiet hours (around 0600-1200 EVE), it tends to be more stable (and faster). There's something going around in the background that's just jerking off the UI - freezing it intermittently sometimes.

The potential fix will be on our test server Duality later today. If you feel compelled enough to give it a test, please do!
(If you don't have it or have Singularity, you can use the files from TQ so you don't have to download a big patch)

Here's the latests from the QA frontlines:
Had the fix in the test lab last night and this morning, so far I cannot repro whatsoever on Windows XP. Alt-tabbing seems to be totally fine, with one or more clients. No UI disappearing or weird corruption on the windows. It was also part of a fix against some alt-tab crashes we were seeing reported on TQ, so if you sometimes crashed when alt-tabbing we hope we have resolved that too.

Again, the fix is on the Duality test server. If you can take part in tonight's mass test please do. Or just load up the client and try out alt-tabbing.
