Loot Jita 2014

I am a huge fan of player driven content even if it is something that inhibits my own game-play. When I was made aware that the CFC was going to "Burn" Jita my response was more of a shoulder shrug than a shiver down my spine. This year the only thing that is different is now The CFC have a bunch of Mobile Tractor and Mobile Depot units lined up next to their not so inconspicuous salvaging ships.

Last year "Burn" Jita did around 500 Billion in damaged during the event. This may seem like an awe inspiring numbers but in reality it's something to be ashamed of. Jita as a trade hub and center for the economy of New Eden, constantly has isk flowing in and out. Half a Trillion isk is less than 2% of the wealth moving through the solar system. If only from a statistical perspective, "Burn" Jita isn't all that effective at burning anything.

Adding insult to injury, this year the CFC has a massive network of Mobile Tractors and Depots which they are very clearly using to salvage and loot anything of value that they kill. The CFC has an inordinate amount of wealth both liquid and otherwise why then are they not just shooting the wrecks and adding impact to their event?

The answer to this question is simple.
Greed

When any entity accumulates that much wealth, it has a tendency to become an end in-of itself. Rather than the wealth remaining as it should a means to an end it becomes the most important thing. This concept of wealth quickly becomes conflated with power and influence thus further reinforcing the mentality that more is always better.

Ultimately "Burn" Jita is an excellent PR Tool for CFC however anybody paying attention can see that this is otherwise brilliant player driven event is being used as an opportunistic cash grab for those that already have so much of it.

It's more of ''Burn Freighters and any transport ships'' than anything else so far.

Good thing they have the MTU to scoop up the ph4t l3wt because some people don't read the forums and act as if everyday is the same day.

Do they have Mobile Tractor units?
You said that.

Your post has lots of words but no point. Why didn't you just post Grr Goons and be done with it?

Did you really just complain about Greed in a game that features (at the center of it's lore) Immortal space pirates?

Isn't that a bit like complaining that stealing is a sin while playing Grand Theft Auto?

When taking time to think about these BJ events, I'm led to some disappointment. Not for any judgment on the actions of CFC and their motivations, but an observation merely reveals the limitations on player driven content in an environment where the system just chugs along blissfully.

Were it up to me (TM) and I was at the wheel, I would drop a Sansha Incursion on the region during this event, and even have a live event of the sort that flags everybody with a suspect flag in the adjacent systems.

The goal would be to create a smorgasbord of elements that everybody likes from Live Event to additional PVe amidst a festering cauldron of PVP. Even the goons could appreciate that.

Before anyone starts griping that "carebears won't undock" or something like that, my experience with live events and flagged brawls is that if the event is momentous enough, people are not going to care about their ISK nor losing a ship. I will argue that such a day is what many players are actually waiting for. PUG fleets full of inexperienced players might be fodder for mirth by the nullsec F1 crowd, but for those players they lampoon, they are having a good time and getting their bubbles busted (if not their cherries).

But in fairness, there's only so much you can do with the given system.

it can't be 'a few nerds trying to make some spacemoney during a player event', can it? it has to be 'a massive network of cfc mtus' planned by high command

Burn Jita isn't just ganking. It's actually pretty fun (if you can get in) and there's a lot of people, not just goons, up to one thing or another. Those MTUs are going to be one of the first things to die. Last year I lost a LOT of Noctis looting around. I saw a lot of ninja looters, a lot of guys in massively tanked BS tractoring stuff, and people randomly ganking gankers. You should just try it.

I am a Care Bear, and I support Burn Jita...

Generally, goons are KoS and I don't hesitate, but I appreciate the moral underpinning of the act.

Reason One

It is hilarious.
This is a GAME people. Imagine where you would be if you spent half the time making real money instead of ISK?

Reason Two

I won't go overlong, because I had actually come back to the forums for a rant along these lines, but Hi-Sec NEEDS to be burned on occasion. By and large hi-seccers are bad mannered, complacent, entitled, crybabies who run their mouths whilst congregating in NPC corps where they cannot be war-decced. People in null sec have manners. I am blue, you are red. There is a civilized understanding. If I want to have something, I protect it. If i want to do something, I do so with attention and detail. Most of all, I work with others to maintain our mutual prosperity. I may be NRDS, CVA and all that stuff that makes all you yarrrrr folks crazy, but at least I have a sense of decency. I will not go so far as to say all Hi-Seccers are scum, but it would take a biblical amount of soap to clean up the ranks...

I am going to sit in Jita and laugh.

Though really, I half expect the server to crash just from the sheer volume of MTUs deployed...

Oh, the rebuttal...

Greed? Is that the best you can come up with? Is there an EvE crying towel? There are so many fascinating angles to this game, philosophy, politics, sociology. Burn Jita is about social action, about rattling nerves, and waking people up.

That is a rant for another time, however...

People who know me, understand that I am not a goon fanboy, but I like to be fair to all if I can.

truth is, Cfc gets it, they understand that their purpose is to provide entertainment for their members, that's what they are doing.

I have removed some rule breaking posts and those quoting them. As always I let some edge cases stay.
Please people, keep it on topic and above all civil!

The Rules:
4. Personal attacks are prohibited.

Commonly known as flaming, personal attacks are posts that are designed to personally berate or insult another forum user. Posts of this nature are not beneficial to the community spirit that CCP promote and as such they will not be tolerated.

5. Trolling is prohibited.

Trolling is a defined as a post that is deliberately designed for the purpose of angering and insulting other players in an attempt to incite retaliation or an emotional response. Posts of this nature are disruptive, often abusive and do not contribute to the sense of community that CCP promote.

26. Off-topic posting is prohibited.

Off-topic posting is permitted within reason, as sometimes a single comment may color or lighten the tone of discussion. However, excessive posting of off-topic remarks in an attempt to derail a thread may result in the thread being locked, or a forum warning being issued.

It would truly be hilarious if CCP changed the mechanics for Freighters/Industrials for the weekend to loot-spew like exploration sites.

Good on them. Let them recover part of their expense or more.

Also MTUs do not tractor wrecks that are owned by other players.

Tbh, Burn Jita tends to be advertised pretty well, and chatted about in various channels prior to the event. Traders with a decent social network ingame should be aware of it happening, allowing them to take precautions.

In my case, I moved out my stuff a day before it started, wasn't planning on letting it stay there over the weekend.
