Eagle and Deimos

I´ve read some topics about Eagle, about how it´s underpowered and stuff. But generally mixed opinions. On the other hand, I´ve found a Gallente alternative to Eagle - Deimos. Not that many negative opinions on it.

I compared them a lot of times, but I´m still not sure which I should go for. What ship (Eagle or Deimos) benefits from it´s bonuses more. So I need opinions of you guys. Consider DPS, survivability...

Let´s ask, what ship is better to run l4 sec missions?

Its l4 missions, you can run them with a potatoe.

Both ships should be able to tank quite well and both ships should be able to break most stuff.


That said the eagle is heavily underrated.

For L4 missions? That's like asking whether it's better to hang yourself from the balls with hemp or nylon rope. Don't run them.

Get a dual rep Deimos and go to lowsec, find a fight, enjoy life.

Neither of them are great missions ships. Their raw damage output just isn't that great.

For what they actually do: the Eagle has great range and potentially an excellent tank. You can use it as an anti-support frigate/interdictor murdering machine, or you can turn them into little bricks of shield EHP that can spit out respectable damage to 160km and basically act like a mini Tengufleet. The Deimos is an armor brawler designed to dunk on small gangs with hilarious active tank setups. You could make a fleet fit out of it, but its tracking and projection are unexceptional thanks to not having good bonuses for them and its slot layout isn't great for an armor fleet fit; a Zealot or an Eagle would probably be better options.

Hmmm... I rarely see those undocking from lvl4 security mission hubs. The occasional Cerberus or mission fit Tengu, yes. But an Eagle for purely missioning? Rare indeed to see them around mission hubs. Even seeing AF's seems more common.

i used a nighthawk out of boredom, for missions there is alot of stuff better than both hacs u listed for pvp on the other hand ...

The vigilant is better than either imo, and its not that much more expensive.

Reasons - needs 1 less magstab for same dps as a deimos, has a better web, and because it needs 1 less magstab it will give a better tank against non kin-therm opponents, without having to lose another magstab. ie its quite a bit better whenever your gallente agent gives you an angel mission.

That said, both ishtar and dominix are better mission runners than any of the medium railboats.

I used the Deimos for lvl4's even before HACs were changed just to see if it could be done. And yes it can. Just don't use rails on the Deimos, they don't pair so well.

The Eagle on the other hand is an amazing railgun or blaster boat.

Ask yourself if you need more range or more speed. The Eagle is the slowest of the HAC bunch but offers range in return for both railguns and blasters.
If you use NULL ammo you can almost reach out to the full meta 4 long point range (20km).

In case of 200mm rails, you can snipe out to your maximum lock range with spike ammo.

The one thing I cannot help you with is, what you like better. Both are great with hybrid turrets, they just fly different.

Neither impress me. I'm playing with a Deimos now, not impressed, and I wouldn't use it on an L4 unless I was going for a new slow-to-complete record. I actually prefer the Vigilant over the Deimos on missioning. L4's tend to be about hitting hard and getting it over with; cruiser class hulls just don't do it (except for a couple of the T3s).

ahem... for cruisers running lvl 4 missions? The Ishtar. Same skills as for the deimos to fly it but deimos needs gunnery while Ishtar needs drones.

You can get eagle to tank about 3k dps with crystals and links while having scram and web which makes it pretty dank...

Ishtar is the only HAC really worth doing missions with. You can get 800dps @ 70km with Gardes which is as good as some Battleships.

I'd like to second the "don't do missions" opinion. Missions are terrible.
