Will my drones defend me if I am ECM-ed?

Hi.

I wonder if my drones, that are set to agressive mode, will defend me, if I was ECM-ed before I locked the attacker ship? I mean - attack on me is still on-going... Let say I can not lock the attacker, but I can launch drones. Will they counter-attack him even if his ship is not locked?

I believe so as long as the enemy is within a certain distance (30 I think but could be wrong)

If your drones are out before you get ECMd and theyre in range, yes, if you launch them after being ECMd, then no.
This is how it works afaik anyway.

I've had the same experience as the above. I've also noticed that if your drones are out, but not fighting when you get jammed, sometimes they will go fight on their own, other times they won't.

in order for drones to engage targets without manually locking target and engaging them you need:
1. drones on aggressive stance.
2. Drones in space BEFORE the battle starts.

It depends.

Your drones will not protect you if doing so would trigger a limited engagement with a player. (Example: You have ECM drones out of your own and are illegally aggressed by a suicide ganker in highsec; your drones will not automatically protect you; this was a change made in Rubicon 1.1)

Against rats, if both you and the drones are within range of the target and were already attacking something, they will attack rats. In addition, individual drones that are idle may defend themselves if they are shot by rats. Drones will not intelligently select the target ECMing you, but will instead attack their preferred size category of target.

It's your drone control range. 20km base + 5km/point of scout drone operation + 3km/point of EW drone interfacing + 20km/drone range extender module.

So realistically probably more like 40 km for most people and 80-100km for people trained and fitted for drone use and range specifically.
