Hybrid Propulsion

I ask myself if an hybrid propulsion between Afterburner and Microwarp Drives would not be interestening.

300% Speed Bonus, 300% Signature Malus, a fitting between AB and MWD, an activation cost between the two.
Scramblers would reduce the bonus speed to 150%.

Personally i want more options in every field, but the reason i want it is the reason devs don't give us more options. I enjoy breaking ****. Finding op combinations and in general min/max fittings in an almost ass-burger like manner.
This would be hard to balance properly across all the different ships. The implications for a dramiel is different from a battleship. How does it jive with halo/snakes and boosters. Vs turret tracking and missiles etc.

But as a concept i always want more options and more dynamic gameplay.

we already have 2 hybrid propulsion systems - MWD and MJD

that said:
a propulsion system that uses charges (not cap-boosters - those are used for ASB's) and has a loooong cooloff time, the effects could be something like what OP is suggesting....
I leave it up to people to find the fuel/charge for this ABS (ancilliary boost/braking system)

For posting an idea into F&I: come up with idea, try and think how people could abuse this, try to fix your idea - loop the process until you can't see how it could be abused, then post to the forums to let us figure out how to abuse it..... If your idea can be abused, it [u]WILL[/u] be.

arent MWD's already a bust style propulsion system?

i know u can leave it on. but its not recommended

and @OP

why not have a slider on the propulsion system, then u can chose exactly how much push u want for sig radius penalty. that way u get even more choice

Make MWDs scriptable with combos like: more speed, uses more cap; less mass (more maneuverability), more sig penalty; etc

This way you could fine tune the existing MWD to closer match the fit of the ship your flying.

I like the Idea of the propulsion scripts.

Perharps in this case the same module could work as AB or MWD with a different script.

Another module with charges could burst the speed for a short time before being exhausted... With a 1 minute reload time...

I've always thought if they make a t2 MJD that it should be scriptable. Like a script that decreases jump range and cooldown, while another increases jump range and cooldown.
