The reason I am reposting this thread is because of additional details now available and because I (regardless of what others, even those directly involved) beleive that it is just that this information be exposed and those responsible suffer the consequences of the public knowledge of the following:

I realize that posting this is actually against the desires of the person who was victimized in this case and I intend to contact him and tell him that I publically posted this. I do so in the interest of others who may potentially become victimized by the same people.

You may all remember a thread that was posted here a couple days ago by the wife an eve player and a friend of mine.

Quote:
My husband has played this video game since at least 2004.

It has been one of his biggest hobbies and has always been greatly important to him.

A couple of years ago, my husband suffered a physical injury which required medication for pain management. Earlier this year that medication became a problem for him as he slowly developed a very severe problem and addiction which nearly cost him his family and I believe his life.

In october we did an intervention with the entire family to help him, and that day he agreed to go into rehabilitation therapy for a month. The rehab went well and he was released 2 days ago (Nov. 28). He returned home in great spirits, he spent the day with his family which consists of myself and his 5 month old son.

That same evening he went downstairs to play this game and see people he believed were his good friends. He was very excited. About 45 minutes later he came back upstairs extreamly upset and distressed. I asked him what was wrong and he refused to tell me until I pushed him as he was acting incredibley volatile and nearly emotional.

He told me he was betrayed by people he considered good friends. Apparently while my husband was in rehab fighting to save his life and his family the people who he believed were his friends kicked him out of the 'company' he was a member of and took everything he owned in game. He said they betrayed him and tried to ransom him for the few remaining things he had stuck in there space.

He said thier reason was because he lost a fight or something and it damaged some statistics for the company. Apparently none of these so called friends would show even a slight kindness to my husband. They took everything he had in game and ridiculed him.

After we spoke he said he was going to 7-eleven for some cigarettes. He did not come home, I was contacted 7 hours later the next morning by medical staff at a nearby hospital. My husband had suffered an overdose.

He is alive thank god, and I am not assigning blame to anyone. But these 'friends' of his were entirely aware of his struggle and I know for a fact had they not been so cruel to him this would not have happened.

My point is, while being cruel can sometimes be fun for those who are not on the recieving end, consider the potential harm you may be causing.

I wish I knew who these people were, my husband refuses to tell me anything because he knows I would come on here and call them out. But If you are one of those people, know that you are cold and have a mean spirit!

The above is the original post, the thread has since been moved to the Out of Pod Experience. Why? I do not know as this is very much about an in game occurance.

The next day the original poster followed up with:

Quote:
hello everyone

I wanted to thank everyone who spoke in support of why I am so upset by this.

My husband is OK, he has returned to treatment and will likely be in there through christmas. His relapse is his own doing regardless of his reasons for it he acknowledges this.

I also have managed to find out the name of the group which my husband was apart of and who stole everything from him but I am torn between what I want to do and what I know he wants and doesn't want.

I know that he would be displeased for me to say anything but I want nothing more than to expose the people who could be so cold as to do this.

Remember real people exist behind the computer.

Now I am adding the following (which I also did in the original thread, but I don't think enough eyes are going to see it to make an impact in the old thread which Is why I feel it is necessary to make a new thread in the proper forum)

I am behind an alt, and have no intentions of revealing who I really am. Lets just say I am or was a friend of the person being talked about in this thread and I am fully aware of what has happened.

The name of the corporation that did this is Skyforger of the Tactical Narcotics Team, the decision to do this was made by the CEO Eperor with the blessing of Wilba who is the leader of the alliance.

The value of all assets taken in total was between 15-25b isk when considering nearly ready to complete super carrier was among them.

The person being spoken about in this thread had left nearly all of his in game assets inside hangers at his personl pos when he took his leave of absence. Among those assets were a large array of ships conventional and capital a great deal of resources and etc.

Do with this information what you will..

hm.

Hard to say how to feel about this.

First, this is EVE and anyone building a supercarrier should know that they are relying on others who could screw them over at any time.

However, this is a pretty terrible situation, if true. Again, it's hard to know the full story.

Will be interested in seeing how this plays out.

The nerfs to supercaps will cause more super pilots to join the largest alliances who can properly "support" their deployment, further concentrating firepower/wealth in EVE. The end result will be fewer "fun" fights, and will hurt EVE in the long run.

These people did this guy a favor. He thought they were his friends. They weren't. They let him know. Welcome to EVE.

Give me a different set of facts and I might feel more empathy for the guy, but he became a drug addict due to his own choices even though he had a baby on the way. I'm not feeling a whole lot of empathy. He needs to quit playing video games and work on putting his life back together. And stop being a burden on society. (Smoking is a filthy habit, hope his old lady doesn't let him smoke around the baby.)

By reading the first post you would realize this isn't a case of someone going out and getting high for fun, he is addicted to a medication that was introduced and provided legally to him by his psychician for the legitimate managment of pain. Not some herion addict poking a needle into his arm for kicks.

And btw, the wife did the guy a disservice by deliberately ignoring his wishes and giving these griefing sociopaths all of these priceless tears.

Also she's mad at the wrong person. She should be mad at her husband for valuing a few space pixels more than his wife and new baby.

I hope she at least has the good sense not to breed with this guy again.

Btw, abusing an addictive prescription medication (I'm sure he was warned not to take it more often than prescribed) is no different than abusing any other substance. That stuff ain't candy.

Poor kid.

Sad tale of woe to be sure. One hard lesson I learned in Eve (and sadly get retaught on occasion) Eve makes folks evil. Unless you know someone well in RL and encounter them regularly you should never trust anyone with anything of value. Once in a while a rare person comes along to earn more trust and I'll bend that rule a bit, but even then I assume anything I put at risk will be lost in the end.

Hope your husband recovers and finds a better lot to cast in with and he finds some joy in the 'verse again soon.

Reading stuff like this baffles me. The internet truely shows the dark side of a human being when there is no true accountability for their actions. This is also evident in some of the posts that follow. Taking the OP at face value (I see no reason why they would make this up), this person had in-real-life problems. EVERYONE in this game has had problems at some time or another in thier lives, just most of us not of this magnitude.

What is sickening is the prevailing attitude of "point and laugh" in this game. Its like watching the social behaviors of high school teenagers, but on a world level. So little empathy is displayed here, its quite disheartening. If this stranger was your friend or a loved one, I am sure you would not exibit this kind of behavior, and would be disgusted if someone else did. That being said, have some respect for others. This is a game, but just like any other arena of competition, there is a level of respect everyone that steps into it deserves.

To the OP: I am sorry your friend has had to endure this treatment. Its never easy to deal with the realization that someone you have trusted has betrayed you. Hopefully your friend can get himself collected emotionally and place things in the proper perspective so to allow him to come back to Eve and find a place where he can enjoy his free time. Hopefully karma will come back to bite those that wronged this individual like it often does in real life.

So the typical scam involves the one scammed nearly having an OD? EvE is much crueler than I thought.

The scam itself is rather common, something I'm fine with, but the cruel treatment they gave him after they learned why he was gone isn't something I'd stand for. Some times, people are too cruel. What?

I feel completely the same way, it just amazes me to see how cold and harsh people are in this game, just because people want to seem tough or since they don't have an accountability as you said they think they can be complete cold and heartless idiots. You pretty much covered the way I feel but come on guys, even if you have zero sympathy for this guy at least be respectful and don't post anything at all.
