Bold & Fresh New Idea

This idea was born out of another thread where someone was complaining about the isk rewards of Incursions. Someone said it was too quick/ easy to make good isk that way. I believe the comment made was: you can have a decent logi 5 pilot with only 7m SP. So i did the math and 7m SP at the current best rate, which is like 2340 per hour, is still 2,991 hours= 124 days.

Now if I'm trying to get my friend to try Eve, and lets say he typically plays a healer/ priest in other games. I'm trying to get him to play Eve with me, so I tell him he can roll a logi pilot and heal the fleet Lol He agrees to give it a shot, but the only thing is- he probably won't get into any fleet for 124 days while his skills train. He asks me: "What the hell am I supposed to do while these skills train?" An image of mining in a Navitas flashes through my mind. Cry

There's dozens of generic answers for that question: "What should new players do while their skills train for over 100 days until they can do the fun stuff?" None of them are any fun. Until now...

Amongst the ghostly remains of an ancient Jovian wreck a new technology is discovered: SKILL DEBT
One time only, for new accounts only, and only for the first character created on that account- players may be granted an intermediate level of "spendable" SP (4-8 mil) to help them get into the game quicker. Once this is done they cannot train anything new until the granted SP is paid back. They could even have generic pilot packages like "intermediate logi pilot" or "intermediate combat pilot" or "intermediate miner/ industrialist."

PROS
  • Makes it easier for new players to do fun stuff

  • Bitter Vets© can rest assured that noobs are paying their dues through the debt system

  • Makes it easier to "sell" your friends on the game and get them to try it

  • CONS
  • Throwaway suicide alts (are you really gonna start a new account for this?)

  • Truthfully, I can't really think of any other cons. Can you?

Or...or...they can wait the 124 days. 4 Months is plenty of time to get a grasp for the fundamentals of eve, and to try out different things (missions, mining, pvp, exploration).

Eve is a Marathon, not a Sprint.

Have you started a new character lately? I started a new alt on a fresh account, and was doing some distribution missions for standings, of course they gotta throw a kill mission in there. I have an optimized remap and plan through Evemon, hence I am training Cybernetics 5 currently. (10 more days X) I couldn't even kill an NPC in a level 1 Distribution mission. Do you remember how weak new characters with no skills are?

Throwaway suicide alts with milions of skillpoints upon birth is a game-breaker.

but before i get into details....Features and Ideas forum is ----------------> this way.

You could always tell your friend that he can make more isk than any incursion without leaving the station and have the skills to do this in around a week or less if he/she doesn't mind paying more tax. All he/she needs is a friendly pal (YOU) to lend him some capital and in around 2 months maybe 3 he/she will have enough isk to buy a character with Logi skills up the kazoo.

    No charge either for this..

Dumbest idea ever. Yes I would make accounts to insta train and **** people in HS, then throw them away, make new account... insta...

I mean.... all you are gona do is now... they will need to sit 4 months... and train something BUT how are you going to deal with SP/H?

Will you make them train those skills all over again somehow (seems like alot of coding) just do a average sp/H and lock skill training for that long?

If they could not wait 4 months, how long will they really sit in a logi for reping people? Sounds like someone who will play eve for a month and quit...

Now for 4 months... the person is going to be stuck unable to change what they are doing... so run into the same... cant wait issue.

You don't need to wait 4 months to fly a barely survivable Augoror / Exequror / Osprey ... you can do it before your plain vanilla 14-day trial period is over.
