Hi all,

would love to get some advice from you linux experts.

Yesterday I've installed ubuntu 13.10 on a dell latitude E5500.
with wine 1.4.1 and the latest winetricks.
Libraries of winetricks are:
atl100 (native, builtin)
atl80 (native, builtin)
atl90 (native, builtin)
msvcm80 (native, builtin)
msvcm90 (native, builtin)
msvcp100 (native, builtin)
msvcp80 (builtin, native)
msvcp90 (builtin, native)
msvcr100 (builtin, native)
msvcr80 (native, builtin)
msvcr90 (native, builtin)
vcomp (native, builtin)
vcomp100 (native, builtin)
vcomp90 (native, builtin)

and now the issue, I have 2 accounts, the first account all goes fine, I can start EVE, get the launcher, can log in, see the character screen, pick a character and go to the station environment. I haven't changed CQ to station environment. This was all set.
with my other account, I can start EVE, get the launcher, can log in, pick a character and then I see "LOADING" with in the background the blur captain quarters, and after 2 seconds the game crashes and I'm back looking at the launcher.

My hunge is that the captain quarters is the evil one in here, but I have no idea how to change to station environment without being in the game itself.

thank you in advance for the help.

cheers

problem is solved. I've found out that you can change the video settings already when the character screen is loaded.
There I've changed to not load captain quarters and this solved the problem.

I don't think I've heard of a single report of CQ actually working on Linux.

FYI, the next time you run into problems, start by updating your Wine. The one in the Ubuntu repositories is rather far out of date.

I had CQ working on my previous laptop (IIRC lubuntu 11.10 and NVidia GT 300-something-M). Still wondering HOW.

I've had CQ working sporadically over several iterations of my Gentoo install. At no point however was it stable enough to actually use.

This thread and it's title is most misleading as it makes you think there is a solution to get CQ running on linux without crash, when the thread starter is just disabling it.

I was in high hopes when i found the thread and shortly after reading into it highly disappointed, as the info on disabling it should be general knowledge to linux users and can be found readily available at the wine-hq support page.

Please correct the title or statement of this thread accordingly.

Agreed, out of curiosity I would like to see what this CQ business is about.

But hey, who needs it when we have space ships to play with?

CG used to work then it broke. Trust me you aren't missing anything. It adds little value and sucks down system resources for no gain.
