Thank you Iria..appreciate your posts a lot.

I found a great guide to setting up the overview with tabs for various needs and one is fast escape...saving your pod by warping to a planet and then to a station. I will create that asap. thanks for not dissing me for not wanting to fight. Mostly i know I am NOT a fast responder and that makes me a bad fighter in any realm..and thus a liablity to any friends who might think they should or could depend on me..

i hate letting pppl down. so i avoid fights....not out of cowardice but out of realistic self awareness.

thanks for all the great help here. really nice. I made it thru my third training mission and managed to mine some ore....tho when i went back there to that field, it was all gone, once again, the four ships that were there cleaned it out.

will have to remember to wake up early and farm astaroids just after the re set...at 7:00 AM my time. Does the re set happy fast or does it take time?

Your welcome.:)

CCP says to expect one hour of downtime, and it used to take that time routinely, but more recently it rarely takes the full hour, 15-20 minutes is more common for the daily downtime. Patches and major updates are a different matter.

But you shouldn't have to wait a full day between missions like that. You can leave the rookie systems and mine mostly safely. There are also other asteroid fields in the same system.

Add asteroid fields to your overview, right click in space, select asteroid fielld, select random asteroid belt, then select add to overview.

Save this and rename it to asteroid belts. This way you can go from field to field.

If other belts in the same system are mined out, you can go to other fields in nearby systems. There is a greater risk than in rookie system, but it is minimal. If you are very poor just use your rookie ship. You can park your ship in station and leave ship, go to another station in system and you'll be given another rookie ship. Get inside the ship, fly back to your other ship. Then strip the mining laser off the first one and stick on the second. Now you have a free ship with two mining lasers and it is totally free. If someone blows you up, it is no big deal whatsoever.

So really, don't be afraid to go out. You should be so low skill that you don't even have to update your medical clone. And if you decide to be brave and go into lowsec to find the asteroids you need, and if someone does blow you up. Laugh knowing that there is NO negative consequence for having your ship blown up, or even if they pod you. You are the one with the power.

wow Iria, thanks again ! nice tips! i will try that. much appreciated. I am kind of scared of being podded as they call it i think but i will keep going and see how it goes. I do have some skills now, as I have been working that heavily but i upgraded my clone already so i am ok i think. have to find out about insuring my ship tho. next step of many.

There is a quicker way to get your 2 civ mining lasers (or 2 civ guns). Take them off your ship and put them in your item hangar, then repackage your rookie ship and reassemble it. It should re-appear with another civ miner and civ gun fitted.

OOOooOO

And it doesn't require running to a different station. Nice.

Another thing you can do to avoid being ganked is to not have a bunch of expensive mods on your ship. I know this probably isn't an issue now, but once you've been playing for a bit and have a lot of ISK, just know that for the most part, T2 or even meta 4 (high quality T1 items) are usually sufficient for a task. Even mission running battleships can function just fine with that level of gear. Even Incursions (EVE equivalent of raids), you can probably get by without super expensive mods, although you'll probably need a navy or faction hull.

As a miner, a Procurer or Skiff rarely get ganked unless you are talking a lot of crap or have blingy mods because it's not cost effective to do that.

Last I head, people in barges and especially exhumers are fair game no matter where they are, youre just not allowed to harrass, grief or in any way mess with newbies in those starter systems.

You can gank orcas and exhumers as much as you want in those starter systems.
I recall a post CCP Falcon made awhile back where he wrote something along the lines of "Do you consider people flying exhumers rookies? ;) "
It was a thread about the question of ganking these people in thee systems. Cba finding it atm though.

Even easier - just repackage your rookie ship, it will spit out the civvie gun and mining laser, then when you Assemble the ship again bam new ones nanitically appear in the fitting.

EDIT: doh someone beat me to it.
