Why is the mood so different on the forums than in the game?

People usually go to the forums when they want to whine about things.

No one ever goes to the forums to make a post about how eve is perfect, or how they're really appreciating the way the game is taking.

I wish they would.... World would be a better place...

Natural Selection.

In game if you're an ******* you get killed.

On the forums you get likes.

This is not a forum alt, this is a forum main.

its because you have people making stupid topics. Then they go 'oh I want to talk about this stupid topic.... This is seriously worse then f-ing traffic. Every time I look at the forums I want to bash my damn head into the wall to stop the pain.

The forums, and particularly General Discussion, are an amalgam of Eve players of all playstyles, many of which cannot relate or understand one another. In a discussion forum the battle of egos can get pretty heated and ugly. For more good-natured discussion try to look at some of the more specific subforums, or ask help questions in New Citizens Q&A.

Of course, no matter where you're posting, don't feed the trolls, and report any rule-breaking posting so we mods can get it under control.

Easy answer, there are always the same few people whining on the forums, that is what makes the atmosphere somewhere odd. 99% of the people that enjoy the game, community and EVE won't join rant, they just join to say something creative and meaningful.

I take responsibility for shiptoasting when I have a bad coffee experience
and it seems my emotional stability isn't what it used to be in the last months.

But that's okay, tomorrow will be much better again.

Probably just that wierd holiday. Easter. pffff.

I have removed some rule breaking posts and those quoting them. As always I let some edge cases stay.
Please people, keep it on topic and above all civil!

The Rules:
4. Personal attacks are prohibited.

Commonly known as flaming, personal attacks are posts that are designed to personally berate or insult another forum user. Posts of this nature are not beneficial to the community spirit that CCP promote and as such they will not be tolerated.

5. Trolling is prohibited.

Trolling is a defined as a post that is deliberately designed for the purpose of angering and insulting other players in an attempt to incite retaliation or an emotional response. Posts of this nature are disruptive, often abusive and do not contribute to the sense of community that CCP promote.

And as said by my colleague above, please use the Report Button if you find posts breaking The Forum Rules.

Edit:

11. Discussion of forum moderation is prohibited.

The discussion of EVE Online forum moderation actions generally leads to flaming, trolling and baiting of our ISD CCL moderators. As such, this type of discussion is strictly prohibited under the forum rules. If you have questions regarding the actions of a moderator, please file a petition under the Community & Forums Category.

Every community grapples with controversy. The EVE community's primary point of contention is about freedom. Should the system be able to takes its own harsh, self-driven Darwinian path.. or should someone interfere on behalf of those who end up at the bottom?

There are deep emotions on both sides of this viewpoint. So expect some color.

That the players are invested enough to argue passionately is a good thing in my opinion.

Or would you prefer the forums to be dead? It's impossible to have an active community that is also polite and lovey dovey. Do go visit reddit or any other active internet community sometime.

This is what you get when you put this many intelligent people in the same box.

I have been wondering this some time already, but how exactly does this community stay in one piece? On the forums everybody plans on poisoning and nailing each other on the walls alive, but in-game it's one of the most pleasant chitchat experiences compared to other morps.

Is this merely an elaborate plan to kill all hope for healthy gameplay, or is it because some failed election runs to grab seats on their goernment? That I do not know.

I think it's so relatively pleasent ingame because there's no default global chat channel. In my observations, that's the place in other games where it's really bad ingame, hehe.
Maybe because with a default global chat, trolls and other attention seekers feel they'll get a guaranteed wide audience.

I dunno really.

I think they're complacent. Like, they've spent a long time not really having a challenge so now they just kind of go through the motions without putting forth any real effort.

*Snip* Please refrain from personal attacks. ISD Ezwal.

Who's to say though? Fact is, doom and gloom is much more prevalent on these boards than in game. In my experience, anyways.
